During the first week of October 2017, our family visited the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch located in Paradise Valley, Montana near the town of Emigrant. This was our first visit to this region and what a spectacular time we had during our 5 day stay! The ranch is located in some of the most picturesque terrain. It provides comfortable cabin accommodations, delicious food, many outdoor activities designed to appeal to all, and an excellent opportunity to make new friendships from across the country. The weather in Montana in early October can change measurably from day to day however this did not stop anyone in our group. Mountain Sky continues to offer numerous outdoor activities including horseback trail rides, hiking, fly fishing, golf, clay shooting, a challenge course, tours of Yellowstone Park, yoga, massages and a fitness center. During the summer months, there is also the opportunity to go white water rafting and swimming.
We participated in as many activities as possible during our visit. The horseback trail rides were incredibly fun (for both the novice and experienced rider) and great care is taken by the Mountain Sky team to pair each rider with an appropriate horse. Each trail ride is led by a wrangler, broken up into small groups (between 2 – 4 guests depending on their riding prowess/comfort level), and provides every participant with a unique opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of this amazing property while seeing some of the local wildlife. The hikes accommodate each hiker’s comfort level and provide a great opportunity to both exercise and explore the majestic beauty of this remarkable property. The challenge course is definitely appropriately named. It provides a thrilling and stimulating activity designed to help you expand your comfort zone and experience a remarkable feeling of exhilaration as you work your way through it. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Yellowstone Park – 1 by horseback and the other on a 13-mile hike, both led by members of the Mountain Sky team. For those wanting to visit Yellowstone in a more relaxed manner, the ranch also offers a full day coach tour. We witnessed many forms of wildlife in their natural habitat on our tour of Yellowstone, (bears, wolves, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, and the list goes on). Because of the many interesting activities, we never stopped – not because the Ranch pushes you to do so but rather because you want to take advantage of everything which is offered.
The staff is phenomenal at Mountain Sky and they take the utmost care to ensure the perfect experience for all of their guests. Two truly exceptional team members we had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know are Pam and Cassidy. Pam is Mountain Sky’s Pastry Chef, and led our 13-mile Yellowstone hike. She also prepares outstanding desserts and baked goods for all of the ranch’s guests. Cassidy led our most memorable trail ride of the 4 rides we took on the property. We also want to mention the great team who assisted us on the Challenge Course; Patrick, Jared, and Morgan. They encouraged us through this tough event and helped make it so much fun. It is exceptional people like Pam, Cassidy, Patrick, Jared, and Morgan, who make each guest’s visit to Mountain Sky a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience.
We loved our visit to this ranch! If you have the desire to visit a guest ranch, we can’t imagine a better place to do so than the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch. Unfortunately, time passes too quickly during one’s stay on the ranch. Be assured when your trip is over, you will remember the experience as being unparalleled, the memories unmatched, and the opportunity to try so many outdoor activities, exhilarating. Top this off with making a number of new friends, both staff members and fellow guests, and superb food - what more could you ask for! When we remember past family trips, this was without question one of the very best vacations we have ever taken together.
