Love this restaurant! Never seen it crowded. Very friendly knowledgable service, and terrific food. The Calamari is some of the best I've ever had. It is topped with a sprinkle of melted cheeses and thin slices of mushrooms , and served in a brown paper bag. The dipping sauce that is served with it is just perfect. Eat it with a spoon.
There is always an interesting creation available, and there is even live music- maybe every weekend, I'm not certain.
Make sure you put Cafe Italian on your list!

Wow, this food was unique and delicious! Unsure why it was empty when we were there; but we enjoyed the food! Ambiance is beautiful and bathroom was super clean.

The food was good, the flavor was there nothing exciting about the presentation. The dessert was formula/ cash and carry type served.

Pizza here is really good. Even my wife's on gluten free crust was excellent. Waitress seemed distracted. Not bad just a little on the lazy side. We would have ordered more such as drinks or desert is she had asked.

Traveling back through Billings from Yellowstone we stopped in the historic downtown area and walked around. We decided to eat here based on other good reviews and the look of the place once we were standing in front of it. The restaurant has a great look and feel to it. The sort of place you might expect to have the best Italian meal of your life!

While the meals we had were fine, they were far from exquisite. The real problem however was the lack of staff. Any hope you might have of discovering a little gem owned and run by an expat Italian are dashed as soon as the teenager in a t-shirt shuffles up to your table with a bowl of bread but forgets the water. At that point you realize you're in for a very different kind of experience.

I'm an avid supporter of small businesses, only though, if they are really trying and the owner actually cares. There was one server for the entire place on a busy weekend night. There was 7 or 8 tables full as far as we could tell and this one poor server was run off her feet. She was really trying to make it work and very clearly struggled to do the best she could but it was painful to watch. There should have been at least two servers. One person cannot greet, seat, take orders and deliver to that many tables. The teenage boy who gave us our bread we later learned was her son and he was only seen randomly. We assume he wasn't actually on payroll?

Where was the owner? Apparently there had only been with one server now for weeks. Why was the owner not at the restaurant helping with this staffing shortage? Especially on a weekend.

As mentioned, we did enjoy our meal and we tipped well as we could see our server was under a lot of stress. This kind of situation though is the kind of thing that would prevent us from going back if we lived there. If this place is going to survive the owner is going to need to become a little more serious about helping out and fixing this staff shortage.
