My father took us here on a recent visit to St. Louis. Great for multi-ages (5-72). Need a car to reach. Tess was a fantastic presenter and storyteller at the bird show. So amazing to see these birds of prey up close and personal as they swoop over your head. All this for free. Trails on the property could use some better signage/maps. Places to eat if you bring a picnic lunch. Clean bathrooms and fascinating gift shop with displays.

We always try to make a stop at World Bird Sanctuary on our trips to St. Louis. Love seeing all the different types of birds! It's free admission so that certainly helps when you're on a budget. Located in a beautiful setting. Nice to get outdoors for a little walk.

Go once... and you will not be able to wait to go back again. Staff are great and the birds are well attended... plus their mission to save and release injured birds... just a great place. Plus you can visit Lone Elk Park afterwards... so it's a 2-fer!

This was a return for my wife and a first for me. She says it has expanded since she was last here several years ago. They obviously do not have the resources of some facilities but boy do they make the most of what they have so give a generous donation it will be well used. If you can catch the show and spend time talking with the staff, they know their stuff and will make the whole visit that much richer.

My teen daughters and I visited this sanctuary on a Saturday morning during our trip to the St. Louis area. (It is right across I-44 from Drury Inn & Suites-Southwest) Jarod was the staff person who was feeding the birds and gave a mini tour. He did a great job at answering everyone's questions and it was obvious he loves his job and taking care of the birds. This was a great learning experience for everyone, and I would recommend it to all, especially those with kids of any age. Special note due to a poor review they received from someone earlier: If you have a question about the care of these birds, please find a staff person and ask. There is a story behind every bird there and how it got there, and why it remains under the conditions it does. There is no admission fee however they ask for donations. They do a wonderful job of rehabilitating and caring for these birds as well as educating the public....all with a very limited budget. Take the time to visit, and leave a donation to help them out as you leave. I'm sure every dollar helps. Thanks for a great and interesting educational experience Jarod!
