The scallop appetizers are amazing! If you go there, you should expect a long meal but amazing food. The waiters are very nice and helpful. Great desserts!

“Still the Best”

Best restaurant in St. Louis. Don't expect an inventive menu -- just the great food and service that has made this a wonderful restaurant for decades.

“Understated in an overstated world.....”

Understated - yes, understated when it comes to food.

Compared to all the contemporary restaurants with paragraph long descriptions of the sources of food and "inventive" and sometimes unappetizing marriages, Tony's simplicity belies is complex composition.

As with my mother's selection - the menu simply stated "Dover Sole"
What the menu did NOT say:
using the freshest selection, flown in daily, skillfully fileted tableside with a light lemon butter sauce and served with your choice of side.

The server has any details you may need - just ask - because he is your gateway to the kitchen and there to make your experience perfect.

Special requests are accepted without question - if they have the ingredients, it can be made.

My daughter (age 11) LOVES carbonara - it was not on the menu, but there was not even a hesitation or having to go to the kitchen to ask. And she was mesmerized by the tableside preparation and serving.

My father's Veal Milanese was pounded to approximately 3/8 inch and was so tender that he commented it was the best outside Italy (and better than some restaurants in Italy).

Eschewing an entree, I thoroughly enjoyed the prosciutto with figs as my starter and the carpaccio for my meal.

Without a doubt, the carpaccio is one of the absolute best items on the menu. The tenderloin is of exceptional quality and with the arugula, shaved parmesan, and white truffle oil - I really can't put it into words - except "when can I go back?"

It went beautifully with wine that Vince Bommarito Jr. suggested from the extensive list.

For dessert - Birthday cake - my father orders it even if it is not his birthday. Or the Triple Chocolate that my daughter inhaled.

No, the menu does not change daily, except for the addition of some specials, and some of the entreesmay have not changed for years (decades?).

Overall, Tony's remains a St. Louis culinary institution because of its consistency - consistent food, consistent service...

Although this might seem retro to some, what it promises is flawless execution.

(How do they do all those subtle sauces every day ???)

“Retro Dining, and I Love It”

I'm a local, and when we want to celebrate a very special occasion, we choose Tony's. This is not Top Chef food. There are no foams, off the wall platings or bacon and basil ice cream offerings here. It is simply prepared, amazingly delicious, high quality food. The quality shows through in everything... even the delectable butter (I think they make it themselves) and delicious bread offerings. Ordering simple dishes like pan seared scallops or Dover sole will highlight the quality of the food and preparation. Service is impeccable if maybe a bit over the top, but I like it! Vince, the owner, comes around to greet and chat with every table. Desserts are phenomenal, and yet again traditional. Dinner is pricey, at the top of St. Louis levels, and dinner lasts 3 hours ish. So just how retro? The walls are covered with autographed pictures of famous visitors, many of whom are dead! Gentlemen, wear your coat and tie, ladies gussy up! Rumor has it the restaurant will be moving, maybe to the county, and we will definitely follow. It will be interesting to see what the next generation of Bommaritos have in store for us... I hope they don't change it too much!
