I recall as a young man when they were building The Gateway Arch. I would travel from the country some distance south of St Louis on a weekly basis. Our route always took us right past the worksite. During the period of building this magnificent monument, I was able to see the progress from the laying of foundations through to the topping off. I had always been in awe of how the structure was built. After it was completed, I was able to visit the monument with a tour of school children. I recall it was one of the most exciting field trips we had ever taken. Over the years, I have visited The Gateway Arch many times. It never loses is luster and there is nothing else in the country that compares. I would recommend visiting The Gateway Arch to everyone visiting St. Louis.
