I normally trust Tripadvisor to lead me to great places when on the road, but this was one of those rare times that my experience didn't match the TA rating. Our family has visited a LOT of mexican restaurants. We know the difference between authentic and tex-mex, and we like aspects of both so this review is not biased based on preference. It was just a plain awful experience.
Here's what happened. We were seated, and our waiter came and took our drink order. He came back with the salsa, and yes we were prepared based on the other reviews. It is indeed terrible salsa...very bland tomato sauce with chopped veggies. But like I said, we were prepared, no big deal. We ordered cheese nachos, and when those came...ouch. 11 chips (yes, we counted) with cheese melted on them. That came out to about .50 per chip. Then our meals came, at least 2 of them did. My son's burrito was nowhere to be found. Finally, after waiting 5 minutes, we asked our waiter, and he goes back to check on it. At this point we also had to ask for silverware, since that was never provided when we were seated. Eventually he comes out with a burrito, but the wrong kind (beef instead of chicken). So again he disappears, and 5 minutes later, a chicken burrito appears. And a warning to all, the burrito is not covered in sauce and does not come with sides. It's just a burrito on a plate.
Service is one thing, that can be bad at good restaurants, as it's very circumstantial. But the food itself was very bland. Nobody at the table was very impressed with anything, besides the chicken. Even the fajita didn't come out sizzling, like you would get at most other places.
My bad experience didn't end at the table though. Upon paying, they ran my credit card but the receipt printer ran out of paper. It literally took them 15 minutes to figure out how to reprint the credit card slip for me to sign. The manager was on the phone with their tech support or something. Nothing was broken, just wasn't something they were used to doing. Was I compensated at all for the food order mistake or the long waits during dinner or afterwards? Nope, not at all. Charged full price for everything, although they were sorry about everything. But a couple bucks off for the trouble would have been a nice gesture.
Oh, and one thing I didn't even mention yet because it's so minor but really shows the mentality here. All of the dining room decor is from the old BBQ restaurant in this space prior. So there are signs talking about pulled pork and ribs everywhere. Normally that would be amusing, but in this case I think it's more due to lack of experience running a restaurant. Or they just don't care.
So I'm giving an extra star because the food was ok. But the service/decor/hospitality is extremely lacking and I would never return here. I'm frankly shocked at how many good reviews this place has, because we simply can't be the only ones that have run into these problems here.
