For a smallish university town this is a major asset for the community. It attracts national and regional acts and performance arts at a very reasonable cost to the attendee.

This center costs over $20 million so you will be impressed with the facility. Clean restrooms, snack bar for intermissions and the sound is good. They have smaller rooms to for artists to show their skills. Lot of the staff are volunteers. You have to see a show here. I like the tickets with seat assignments but some shows are open seating..

The Ford Center is a performance space about the size of Avery Fisher Hall of Lincoln Center in NYC. The center is attractive, comfortable, with excellent acoustics. Our visit this time was for the University of Mississippi Presentation of Doctoral Diplomas. Previous events which we have attended over several years have included: performance by Marty Stark, a talk by Harry Belafonte, a concert by Joan Baez, a talk by the King Abdulla of Jordan, the Peking Acrobats, the Nutcracker, performance by B. B. King, and several performance by the Ole Miss chorus and orchestra. Besides an advance program throughout the year, there are several surprise events - so be on the look out in the Daily Mississippian and other publications.

The Performing Arts Center has hosted Marty Stewart, King of Jordan, Joan Baez, and the Bejing Acrobats - not to mention B.B. King. The performance hall is about the size of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in NYC. It is attractive, comfortable with good acoustics. Tickets are not outrageously priced and the time of the performances allows for a pre-show dinner and early to bed - if that is your goal. Located on the grounds of the University of Mississippi, with plenty of parking.
