This place is a hit or miss, the food is usually pretty good. However the service is almost always terrible.

I went to sweet peas table for lunch and it was awesome!! My server Tammy was awesome and down to earth sweet. It's always a plus to have a great waitress! The food was GREAT TOO! I read one of the other review talking about the deserts being not homemade, I know the person that makes their deserts and for all who don't know, they are very much homemade . I will be going back!

Southern style home cooking. Inexpensive prices. This traveler enjoyed a ribeye steak with mustard greens and candied yams that could have qualified as a dessert. The other diner greatly enjoyed a double pork cutlet (waiter recommended) for under $10. The building appears to be perhaps a former wedding venue and the only sign on the building says 'OPEN' but don't let that stop you.

Sweetpea's Table moved to a new. larger venue and it is still a packed place. They describe their food as "soul" food. Which to me is country cooking. Lots of sides from purple hull peas which were excellent to sweet potato casserole that was toooo sweet. My fried catfish was thin and crispy, one person's fried catfish was too dry and crunchy. Another said the grilled chicken was flavorful and the fourth in our party always gets a bowl of mixed grilled vegetables with grilled chicken and Papaw's sauce, sort of a teriyaki flavor. The rolls are flavorless, the hushpuppies okay. On Friday night we had 1/2 hour wait for a table, it was a cold night, but the waiting area was big enough for the 40+ people there to wait warmly. The Highway 305 Band played mostly country music straight from 7 to closing time, which is 9 p.m. It is a family atmosphere and a couple of band members pointed out there wives, children and grandchildren. A waitress did a short impromptu dance to "Wipe out." The cook came out a couple of times to sing with the band. It's a friendly, family oriented place. The band plays for tips. Waitress kept ice tea glasses refilled. Plenty of parking, a carry-out window and banquet rooms.

We have been to Sweetpeas on many occasions including the new location. The food is okay and kind of laugh at at other reviewers who think that this is down home southern cooking. The one positive is they have a really good hamburger but the rest is okay food. The last visit we ordered dessert, me having the strawberry cake and my wife the chocolate pie. Neither were homemade. At the old location the owners daughter made the desserts and were awesome. This cake came out dry and had this funky syrup glazed over it with dollops of whipped cream. I am guessing the liquid glaze was to moisten it as it was stale and very dry. Just inedible. The pie, what can I say but straight out of the US Foodservice/ Sysco frozen dessert lines.
