“Great food”

Margaux's Table and Farm Store
Restaurant details

Excellent use of local and seasonal ingredients. The lamb chop with risotto was excellent. The salads (caramelized pear and roasted beet) were even better and also large.

Three additional things:

Wine isn't available, but you can bring your own with no corkage fee - a huge benefit.

The owner is also the chef, server, and everything else. When it's busy things may slow down. Bring 2 bottles of wine.

Currently open 3 days a week, definitely worth planning ahead.

We had 2 ribeye steaks and 2 sandwiches. The homemade bread was good but needed salt. It was strange to have the sandwiches served in baskets at a candlelight dinner. Ordered the steaks rare to MR. They took an hour, came out medium and fatty. We complained and the waitress brought the information (and fatty remnants) back to Margaret. She responded, through the waitress, that because the steaks were locally sourced, they contained some marbling. We felt insulted by her refusal to acknowledge the poor quality of the steaks. They acted as if we hadn't eaten steak before. There are plenty of good restaurants in WBL. This one will not make it.

Outstanding cuisine, and perk is that one gets to bring in beverage (wine, other alcohol) that one desires to have with the meal.

We were on the north end of the Twin Cities. I Googled "Farm to Table in White Bear Lake" and Margaux's came up. What a lucky find! The owner, Margaret Doran, sources her food from local farms. Menu items for the day are written on a chalkboard. At lunch we ordered at the counter (in the open kitchen) and were served on a delightful patio. My husband and I are both vegetarians. We started with butternut squash soup, a thick, creamy, well-seasoned bowl of heaven. My husband had a beautiful salad with fresh greens, apples, walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese, among other ingredients. I had a sandwich thick with egg salad (dotted with capers) on their homemade bread. We vowed to return whenever we are in White Bear Lake.
