Owner description: Built in 1927, the Chateau was one of the most elaborate theatres built in Rochester in the early 1900s. The exterior sunburst design marquee is lit with 636 light bulbs. Its unique French Village decor includes interior balconies and turrets and, on the ceiling, stars in the night sky. Refurbished in 1994, this elegant old theatre now houses a Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Starbucks Cafe.

In my opinion, this is the best theater in town. They have now added reclining seats. At every screen I believe, too. When you go, it looks like an old time theater from outside, inside though, you have the modern things you expect at a movie theater.

The Chateau has inspired numerous quests to save it. It is really special to the people of Rochester and when you visit, you'll see why. There's something magical about it.

as of may 2016 it appeared closed and there was no info displayed on the outside. Sign is illuminated at night and makes for a nice backdrop for pictures. The little plazza in front has a fountain with benches where you see Mayo staff and visitors taking their lunch on nicer days.
