Description: The Golden Lion has the honour of being the D Day pub that was used as the unofficial mess during the preparations for D Day at Southwick Park. The lounge was reputedly used by Churchill, Montgomery, Smuts and Eisenhower, the barmaid Edwina that served them has recently died at the age of 100 yrs. We have a small cosy lounge with a roaring log fire in the winter a small restaurant and a further larger bar in which we also serve food. Dogs are welcome in the larger bar and we have a no smoking side garden with tables for summer. Our Head chef Sonny and his team prepare our local seasonal food freshly to order and will cater for funerals, birthdays leaving parties and other gatherings, we have been known to let the whole pub out for some functions dependant on numbers, just ask and we will be pleased to discuss any enquiries. We have NO website or online menu as yet We welcome Britstops into our car park please phone ahead and have your membership book to hand on arrival

This was my 3rd visit in a month, and the 2nd time for using the restaurant. The restaurant feels connected to the pub area which is nice in my opinion; we could hear the live jazz combo playing in the bar but it did not disturb the conversation.

The food menu range and quality is excellent as is the beer and cider on tap. The dessert menu is also good especially the ice cream selection.

Our second visit was on a Monday night which turned out to be quiz night, so no restaurant service but a good, fun visit all the same. Good service from friendly staff. To find the car park I suggest you follow the signs for the Brew House which is beside the back door in the shared car park

We were warmly welcomed at this very interesting Pub full of memorabilia as both Eisenhower and Montgomery planned D-Day nearby and visited the Pub. The service and the food were excellent. There are a wide range of beers and a very good wine list. Altogether a most enjoyable dinner with friends.

Met friends here and had a very nice meal. I am Coeliac, there wasn't a separate gluten free menu but there were options on the menu I could have and the staff were very helpful. They didn't have gluten free beer but I had phoned ahead and the landlord was happy for me to take my own. He was interested in the beer and may stock it in the future.
