Great location and lots to do. Is a little pricey but is worth the money. Staff can be slow at service and for a more upmarket hotel you still have the problems of getting a sunbed, unless you get up at the crack of dawn to reserve your bed.
No shop to buy water, or snacks only through hotel which can be pricey.

This is the best hotel in Oman and probably in middle-east with such a scale. The property is so huge that it has three different type of hotels (Mid-range, luxury, Super luxury) accommodated in one area. The hotel has its own private beach front with lots of activities to entertain. There are various choices of restaurants and bars to choose from. To move from one property to another, you might need to get into the gold cart or spend some time walking. The property also houses, gardens, Tennis courts, spa, gym, and a lazy river to lie down and float. The place is located between the mountains and adjacent to the beach which gives it a unique appearance. Perfect for honeymooners and holiday goers.

Room Tip: Beach front views

Stayed a several high class hotels in Muscat, but Shangri La is the best. Rich in Room Details, very goo breakfast variety. Very nice garden an pool area. I just can recomend this hotel to everybody, for every type of trip.

We booked this hotel for 4 nights at the end of our 2 week vacation in Oman, it is one of three that the group have built right next to each other, but it is the nicest one that allows children.

However, next to the hotel is an older more dilapidated hotel also run by the same group - so what do they do, they allow all the guests from the cheaper and more dilapidated hotel (the Al Waha) to use all of the facilities of this hotel - as a result the pools, beach and restaurants are all overrun by people escaping from the cheaper hotel and spending all their time in the hotel they didn't pay to stay in.

Of the three hotels next to each other this hotel is also the nicest that allows children, which means that the hotel is on overrun by kids from 2 hotels (this and the cheaper hotel next door).

The result of the above is that the hotel is massively crowded, service levels slip and you are essentially in package holiday hell but having paid significantly more than package holiday prices.

Our experience also included the hotel renovating the room next door whilst we were staying there, which lead to not only noise but also paint fumes coming under the connecting door between the rooms - not exactly what you expect for an allegedly 5 star hotel.

As an FYI they also ask you to sign a disclaimer to use the beach and pool, not in advance of you booking or turning up, but when you are at the resort and turn up at the pool / beach and so have no choice (unless you don't want to use either for the entirety of your stay) - this is the act of a decidedly dodgy company, not least because the pool area isn't maintained properly and is dangerous in places (our son sliced his foot open on the pool surround and I cut my foot on the poorly maintained bottom of the pool).

Shangri-la hotels obviously aren't what they used to be as having not stayed in one for a while I obviously missed their decision to refocus on the package holiday market and let their hotel quality slip.

The smart thing to do is not to stay in this hotel but to stay in the Al Waha next door for much less and use all the facilities of the better hotel for free - it's what everyone else seems to be doing anyway so why pay over the odds for the better hotel if you share all the facilities.

Definitely don't stay here unless you are on family holiday though as it is literally overrun with screaming kids

Having stayed in 5 hotels over our 2 weeks in Oman, all of which were of the quality that this hotel is meant to be, I can say that this was the worst hotel of all 5 and the one we would never consider returning to.

Room Tip: Get a room at the cheaper hotel next door and use all the facilities of this hotel for free anyway!

This beautiful resort is very relaxing and the staff is friendly. There are many things to do from relaxing on the beach to scuba diving. Rooms were comfortable and clean. I can't wait for my next visit to Oman.
