Murphy Inn

Originally we had planned a native american wedding in VA but our plans didn't work out. So we decided to come back to our favorite place which held a special meaning to the both of us. We had a Native American Wedding Ceremony on the river's boardwalk. We chose Murphy's Inn because we had enjoyed a previous stay there. We knew that the accomodations were perfect and cozy and the owners and staff were extremely hospitable. There was nothing more that we could have asked for, we had everything! Our wedding reception was held in their bar and dining area! The food was wonderful, the waitstaff was on the ball and very helpful! Tina, the manager and owners daughter was so great, even with our 10 yr old. She even went up to her room to bid her a goodnight and sort of tuck her in while Mommy and Daddy were busy. She will certainly be a great mom someday if she isn't already! Our guests all raved about the service, the food and the accomodations as we pretty much filled the hotel! We went home and dropped the kids off and have now returned for our honeymoon! Our stay was so perfect that we couldn't think of anywhere as nice to spend our honeymoon. Everyone there made us feel like family. We are so thankful for this wonderful place and this wonderful town. Everyone in the whole town was so friendly and helpful and have quickly become like family members to us. So make sure you plan your next trip to St. Clair and stay at Murphy's Inn and stop into the little mall across from the boardwalk, say Hi to Joellyn and Norbert, at the Hers shop and the hair salon, and tell Tina and the staff at Murphys that you read this review!

We stayed at the Murphy Inn for two nights while in the St. Clair area for some fall golfing. The property was built in 1836 and is very well maintained and clean. There were lovely window treatments in the outside window boxes.

Mitch, the manager, is an exuberant, warm and competent host. We had room 207 and our friends were in room 203 down the hall. Staying at the Inn was very convenient since we could have dinner and drinks downstairs after being out in the fresh air.

On Friday night Paul Shonk entertained with his fabulous blues guitar and the St. Clair karaoke people (very good) performed on Saturday night. Might get up the nerve to join them next time.

The restaurant has really good pub fare. We all chose the fish and chips Friday evening and then the pizza on Saturday. I had hoped to try the Irish eggrolls but will save that for next time. They had some nice desserts as well, including the pumpkin fluff (which we called flumpkin puff later in the evening).

The rooms were upstairs and were lovely and immaculate, decorated circa 1800s but bathroom fixtures were very new. bathroom was equipped with a blow dryer and some nice bath products, very white towels.

There are some golf courses in the area and we spent our time at Rattle Run, which is about 10 minutes drive away. Great course. We also did some bowling for the first time in many years down the street, lots of fun. If you are going over from Canada, I suggest taking the ferry at Sombra.

In the mornings they served up a nice contintental breakfast in the dining room and staff member Pamm was very sweet. (their coffee was also better than a place down the road). Paul was also very friendly.

We will definitely stay at the Murphy Inn again. it was a wonderful experience overall. Great place if you are looking for a clean, friendly and non-pretentious atmosphere. Thanks folks!

Room Tip: Check out their website to see the rooms, we saw three, all were nice.
