We stayed at the Murphy Inn for two nights while in the St. Clair area for some fall golfing. The property was built in 1836 and is very well maintained and clean. There were lovely window treatments in the outside window boxes.

Mitch, the manager, is an exuberant, warm and competent host. We had room 207 and our friends were in room 203 down the hall. Staying at the Inn was very convenient since we could have dinner and drinks downstairs after being out in the fresh air.

On Friday night Paul Shonk entertained with his fabulous blues guitar and the St. Clair karaoke people (very good) performed on Saturday night. Might get up the nerve to join them next time.

The restaurant has really good pub fare. We all chose the fish and chips Friday evening and then the pizza on Saturday. I had hoped to try the Irish eggrolls but will save that for next time. They had some nice desserts as well, including the pumpkin fluff (which we called flumpkin puff later in the evening).

The rooms were upstairs and were lovely and immaculate, decorated circa 1800s but bathroom fixtures were very new. bathroom was equipped with a blow dryer and some nice bath products, very white towels.

There are some golf courses in the area and we spent our time at Rattle Run, which is about 10 minutes drive away. Great course. We also did some bowling for the first time in many years down the street, lots of fun. If you are going over from Canada, I suggest taking the ferry at Sombra.

In the mornings they served up a nice contintental breakfast in the dining room and staff member Pamm was very sweet. (their coffee was also better than a place down the road). Paul was also very friendly.

We will definitely stay at the Murphy Inn again. it was a wonderful experience overall. Great place if you are looking for a clean, friendly and non-pretentious atmosphere. Thanks folks!

Room tip: Check out their website to see the rooms, we saw three, all were nice.
