Stopped here to view the Upper Falls since a Park Ranger recommended it for easier access getting there. What a gem! Absolutely exhilarating and gorgeous! Stairs aren't too bad to climb up and down. Bathrooms are at the beginning of your trek to the waterfall. Plenty of benches and signage and maps along the way. There is what I think is a restaurant and beer garden right there at the parking lot. A lodge is before you get to it. Upper Falls is past Lower Falls and the Lodge. Lower Falls has a hill so not as easy for those with mobility issues. It also is currently closed for the season. They both have stairs. Lower has I think 22 more stairs than Upper (which has 94). There is a hiking trail between viewpoints but it takes about 4 hours one way. There was only a little bit of ive along the way but it was all pretty flat/maintained the whole way there.

Tahquamenon Falls is not the largest falls east of the Mississippi, but is the largest falls between the Mississippi and Niagara Falls (east of MS to Niagara). There are many falls further east that are much larger, but maybe not as serene, remote, and beautiful.
It has an upper and a lower falls. Both are worth seeing, but the area is so remote that it takes some driving time to get from one to the other (there's only one road). I recommend seeing both. The North one is the largest. They are gorgeous in the fall when all the Maple tree leaves are changing color (Sep-Oct). There are so many leaves that when they fall into the river they actually turn the water into a briny color. Paradise, MI was a good name to choose for this area. It is breathtaking everywhere you go and close to Lake Superior and Lake Huron (2 of the Great lakes)! Bring camera or don't go (lol).

Our last trip was to the Upper Falls in Feb 2018. The area was thick with snow yet the walk to the falls was no trouble for me and my kids. There are a lot of stairs to the observation deck, however if you have accessibility issues you can view the falls from the trail so don't let the stairs keep you away.

In finer weather, traveling between the upper and lower falls is easy and you can find yourself spending the entire day in the area if you enjoy the outdoors. Make sure to look up the trails throughout the park - the area is beautiful (not just the falls!)

At the Upper Falls there is a restaurant and gift shop and restrooms close to the trail that are open year-round.

Parking is easy - just make sure that you have a state park pass for entrance.

While you're in the area, consider traveling further up to Paradise and all the way to Whitefish Point.

Nice, clean, and nice size lot. Only a short walk to the lower falls from the campground. There is a nice camp store a short walk past the lower falls. If you are up for the adventure; walk the trail from Lower to Upper Falls. It can be a little strenuous, but so worth it. The island walk is short easy walk that is a pretty way to see the lower falls from another perspective.

We made a quick day trip to the falls from lower Western Michigan. It was definitely worth the drive! The view is just as breathtaking in the winter. Be prepared for a little hike in order to view the Lower Falls!
