We came to Gavarnie and Compostelle Hotel to enjoy the Pyrenees. And we did. We don't need any luxury when we are staying in a mountain hotel. Compostelle is not so big and everything you need as in a good bed, a shower (or bath) and a great morning view is what you get. All is very clean. And for a very good price.
There's maybe just one thing to know before you book. The breakfast is minimum, coffee with yoghurt and a croissant (some bread). But no worries about that, Gavarnie has several places where you can get crêpes in the morning before you start exploring the Pyrenees.

My parents and I stayed at Compostelle in for 2 nights this summer. The hotel was impeccably clean, and there was lots of information about the Pyrenees. My parents don't speak French and we booked the hotel because the website said the proprietor had hiked extensively throughout the Pyrenees. We tried asking for information and were often promised a book or map or answers, but never received any. Both mornings we waited at the table for breakfast from about 10-15 minutes. It seemed like she was training a new employee, but it was frustrating to be forgotten about. We came back to the hotel after hiking to find all of our stuff we left in the room put into the closet and my father's socks that he had left out to dry were gone. Turns out the proprietor had but them downstairs to dry faster. It was helpful, and they were dry, and our rooms were very neat; it was just a little strange. Despite the quirks, we enjoyed our stay and were quite comfortable there.

Room Tip: Corner room with view of the Cirque

We enjoyed a pleasant, quiet and clean room with a fabulous view of the Gavarnie Cirque. Innkeeper Sylvie LaPorte speaks English and is very helpful. Right on the Chemin de St. Jacque. Free parking. Casual atmosphere.

The host greeted us warmly and beckoned us to the basement where we could dry out all our kit inc. tents, rucksack and boots in the boiler room. The twin room with bath was clean, airy and had a view over the front of the building. Good value and we took breakfast for an extra 7 euros each and appreciated good cafe, tasty croissants and fruit juice. Maybe a little pricey but appreciated waitress service! All in all a great place to end the trip or recharge the batteries - the village has a good outdoor shop and Les Glaciers was good to eat, drink and watch Le Tour!

It was pleasure to have found the Compostelle hotel at the last minute is not a deluxe hotel but it is a great place for hikers , very clean very friendly and the owner Sylvie Laporte is charming and will help you as her husband with hikes around the Cirque.
