“Perfect retreat for a recharge”
Reviewed 6 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Was the perfect destination for a week of not doing terribly much. Gîte Gardes has been beautifully renovated and is thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing break.

We stayed with three young children who all made good use of the lovely pool (on a daily basis). Us grown ups enjoyed the sunshine, figs from the garden and of course the wine.

Montflanquin is a lovely medieval town just a couple of KMs away, as is the local supermarket where we were able to stock up on provisions.

Jim and Jo have done a wonderful job of making guests feel welcome and not wanting for anything.

“Fantastic gite and hospitality”
Reviewed 15 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We spent a fantastic fortnight in this beautiful gite and would definitely stay again.

The accommodation is spacious, beautifully decorated and really-well equipped. We're a family of 5 but we had plenty of room and didn't even use the extra shower room.

The gite has a fantastic heated swimming pool which the kids absolutely loved. It is suitable for young children as there is a very shallow end. It was noticeable that by the end of our holiday, all our children were far more confident in the water.

There is also a really nice outdoor area with loungers, table and a barbecue which we used several times. The kids laos liked the games room and swings/slide.

It's also worth mentioning the breathtaking view of nearby Montflanquin, which you can see from the windows and terrace of the gite. Montflanquin itself is a short drive away and offers some very nice restaurants and buzzing night market on a Thursday. We also travelled to several chateaux and vineyards nearby which were greatly enjoyed by children and adults respectively.

Finally a big thanks to our hosts Jim & Jo. They were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. We would heartily recommend this accommodation to anyone considering a stay in the area.

“Made me want to sell up and move to France”
Reviewed 2 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Gardes is easy to get to from Bergerac airport, where we hired a car. Once you're at the gite it is just a short drive to Monflanquin, the supermarket, pharmacy and other amenities yet far enough away to have your own space. There was no light pollution and the stars were amazing!
The gite itself was very clean and spacious and well equipped. The pool was spotless and just the right size for the seven of us (three kids). When we weren't by the pool we were on the swings or taking a walk around the grounds and spotting all the wildlife.
Jim and Jo were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable yet discrete. They advised us on good day trips in the local area and where to get the best bread!
Gite Gardes is a real find and we hope to be going back soon.

“A really nice holiday in Monflanquin”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We spent 3 weeks from June 28th in this very well restored old barn 4 kilometers from the old bastide village Monflanquin. It's a wonderful stone building with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a large living room with an open kitchen area. Outside there is a very nice heated pool and a barbecue area. The house is absolutely beautiful and very well adapted for wheelchair users. The owners live on site and are very helpful and really nice people.

Monflanquin has some nice restaurants, we especially liked Aldayaa which serves excellent Lebanese food. We also liked Le Jardin which serves traditional French food. Within 30 minutes of driving there is a huge choice of good places to eat, including one-starred Michelin restaurants in Villeneuve-sur-Lot (La Table des Sens) and in Sainte-Sabine (Etincelles). We would also highly recommend a visit to Les Ganivelles in Villebramar. Great food of local produce and very reasonable prices.

The Casino supermarket has a good selection of groceries and wine and is only 3.5 km away. Monflanquin will have all the shops and services you need.

During our stay we visited Bordeaux, Bergerac and Agen and small bastides like Pujols and Monpazier. If you bring a bike there are several nice routes you can enjoy.

We have stayed several places in France and this is simply the best! The house itself is perfect, you have everything you need (shops, restautants etc) within a short distance, and the view across the valley to Monflanquin is fantastic.

We have already booked for next summer!

Fantastic house in a fantastic area, with the cosy medieval village of Monflanquin around the corner. Jim and Jo were great hosts with lots of tips and knowledge about the area.

The house and pool are 100 % top quality and great for families, and we had a wonderful time!
