“Wonderful Mouchat”
Reviewed 5 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

I can only echo all the other review of this wonderful house. The house its contents and location are a beautiful way to get away from the day to day cares of everyday life. Brian the owner from our first contact was very approachable and welcoming, the house's website was a goldmine of information telling you all you need to know about the house and the surrounds. Days out to the nearby Medieval town of Perigueux, to eat at its many restaurants in the open squares and the obligatory trip to the pretty but busy St Emilion to stock up with wines for the return journey, were about the only times we ventured away from the wonderful Mouchat. Why would you go far when you can sit beside the pool with eagles soaring over head and have breakfast on the deck watching the deer grazing in the paddock?

Liked best: The fact that the house had a very rual location, but had every modern convenience within it
Liked least: Holiday Lettings inability to return the damage deposit within a month of our return, The house owner has been exceedingly embarrassed by this circumstance

“Fabulous house in a fabulous location”
Reviewed 28 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Super house - extremely well kitted out and very, very clean. House is maintained to a high standard and is very comfortable. Also very well located for everything the Dordogne has to offer. We spent some lovely home days just relaxing and playing in the pool and other days out and about exploring. Without question, the best boulangerie we found was the little one in Hautefort and it is worth the extra few minutes drive there in the morning to purchase the wonderful goodies. Cherveix-Cubas is a nice little place and we went to the little bar a few times to play table football. Brian, the owner of the house, was a delight. Very quick to reply and extremely helpful. We loved the house so much that everyone in our group has voted to go again next year :-) (and we don't often visit the same place twice so that speaks volumes). We had wonderful days out in Bergerac, at the crazy golf in Montignac, the gardens of Marqueyssac, Roc St Christophe and various other places...a very relaxing holiday enjoyed immensely by our group. Lovely to sit on the deck or with the folding doors pulled back in the evenings and watch the deer and foxes in the paddock.....

“A Gorgeous Home Away From Home”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The house at La Carriere is one of the only places we've rented in France which actually looks as good, if not better in real life than in the owner's photo's. The property definitely has the "wow factor" with its galleried reception area and master bedroom. Overall, the property is well furnished both inside and out with simple, yet stylish items.

The open-plan kitchen is dominated by a large American-style Fridge Freezer which had more than enough space for food and drinks our family of 4. The provision of a cold-water and ice dispenser was invaluable during out stay. The rest of the kitchen is extremely well equipped, having a huge array of utensils, pots & pans, crockery and cutlery. Much more than you usually get in a holiday gite.

The lounge area has comfortable sofa space for 4 people with a Blu-Ray/DVD player, music system with iPod dock and large-screen TV with English FreeSat. Great for catching up on TV in the late evenings.

The two downstairs double bedrooms are a decent size with comfortable beds. There is also a nice downstairs bathroom with shower and a separate WC.

Up an open staircase there's a mezzanine area with desks and a small book-case with a doorway to the master-bedroom suite. The master suite is huge with a vaulted ceiling having exposed beams. In addition to the very comfortable bed, there's a sofa and bi-fold doors opening onto an external balcony with 2 chairs and a table. What makes it really special though are the stunning views north over the surrounding countryside. The master bathroom is simple, yet stylish with a large walk-in remote-controlled shower.

Outside, the property has a good decked area on two sides with plenty of choice of places to sit or lie and relax. The outside dining table and chairs were of good quality and made eating out at all times of day a real pleasure. In the gardens there is a small swimming pool which was clean, warm and ample for our needs. It is surrounded by its own deck with plenty of recliners and other seating.

We were woken at 1:30AM by the pool alarm going off, although there was no evidence of anything having been in the pool. Although it would be easy to regard this as an annoyance, it turned out that the night skies were truly beautiful and worth getting out of bed for. None of us had ever seen so many stars. Make a point of staying up/getting up in the middle of the night to take it in if you do stay here. You won't be disappointed.

The nature described on the website was exactly as expected. Two Roe Deer visited the field most evenings, although not on the warmest ones for some reason. We saw the foxes crossing the field a few times and the red squirrel visited the garden once, although it was briefly visible as it went through the bushes in the garden on several occasions. There were also birds aplently including two or three different types of birds of prey.

The owner is English and was very helpful and responsive over email.

Overall, this is a really superb property which lives up to its description on the website. It could be the first property we've rented in France that we return to.
