This establishment was recommended by friends, tv shows and received great reviews, so we just had to stay over and were not dissappointed at all! If you like something different, fun and motor vehicles then this will be perfect for you. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the dinner in the restaurant and the buffet breakfast was excellent and well-presented. A gem in the middle of nowhere. It is also a few kilometers from the Fish River Canyon, and we could tick the canyon off our bucket list.
Be sure to see what Pandora's Box is all about! We had a great laugh!
Thank you for the excellent service and keep up the good work.

Upon arrival this place looks amazing. I would recommend stopping there even just for a look around. Do yourself a favor and eat their famous burger. One of the best we have had. For the hot days there is a lovely cold swimming pool. Great place to spot gembok at night due to the green grass. The campsite is great with clean bathrooms. No complaints here.
On the negative side, the service is seriously lacking. The bar is slow even when empty and although most staff are friendly they aren't all that sharp which created some frustration on a couple occasions . After our SUV was was filled with Diesel instead of petrol it left us stranded for a day. We were reimbursed for the petrol but the manager made no effort whatsoever to accommodate 5 adults stranded in a place which for us was a stopover. Not even even mentioning the waist of a works leave day.
All in all, defiantly a place to walk through at the very least

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us. Please allow us to present our side of the story.

The guests stayed with us for two nights, unfortunately on their second day, the petrol attendant did fill their car up with Diesel instead of petrol. The guest was sitting in the car while the car was filled up, but this is no excuse since there was a sign on the petrol “flap” that indicated it was unleaded only.

I immediately contacted Phillip, who was at that moment in town, for assistance. He in turn contacted Rassie and Herboth, to help us with the disaster. This was round about past 13h00pm. The guests were on their way to the Canyon view point and the car was stuck almost 3/4km from us. Rassie informed us that we can tow the vehicle back to the lodge, clean the fuel tank out and wash the fuel filter with petrol. We first went to the car to tow it, but the guest could not find the right place to hook the tow-rope. So I suggested to take the ladies and one gentleman back to the lodge and come back to further assist.

That done, we came back and after a while found the place to hook the tow-rope. I towed the guest back, and also explained to him what Rassie told us to do and that even though the wrong fuel was put in, the Diesel will not harm the car, not that that should be an excuse. I apologized several times for this very bad mistake made. The petrol attendant, who is also one of our maintenance guys, started building out the fuel tank.

I constantly made sure if the guest was happy with our maintenance guy working on his car, and if he is not, I will immediately tell him to stop and we can arrange for a more experienced person to come out and work on his car, on our account off course. He assured me every time he is happy and fine with it.

The rest of the party sat at the pool the whole time, they had their own cool box filled with their own beverages.
I made a point to see that everything went well at the car, and that the guests was still happy with the proceedings. The others were drinking at the pool and every now and then came down to the car to see how things were going. They only came in once to the bar to order coffee, that was about 6 o’clock and by that time we had cleaned the fuel tank and filter and filled up the car again with 25ltr of unleaded.

Off course the car did not start immediately and the guest suggested we tow him again. We only reached the gate when he did not feel comfortable about the towing anymore, and mentioned that the clutch did not feel right, but he himself said that the clutch could not have been tampered with. We towed him back, called Phillip and Rassie. Rassie said no the clutch should be fine, we just need to start the car and pump, pump, pump. The car must start, no doubt about it.

It was getting late, and I suggested that we take a break and come back very early tomorrow morning, then Phillip will also be here to give his assistance as well. I suggested a large beer or such at the bar for the guests, but he only said he will need something stronger, they will come by later the evening to have a drink and maybe eat something.

Only the one guest came back, just to confirm if Phillip will be coming tomorrow and if the car will start and then he left again. By that time I have also spoken to a third mechanic who assured me the car will start, it will just cost a lot of pumping the fuel pedal to get it going and to work the unleaded through again.

In the morning, Phillip came to assist and we eventually got the car started, after bleeding the clutch a bit as well. Phillip and the guest let the car idle a bit to get the unleaded through its system and then they drove around a bit to make sure all was good now.

The guests mentioned that their permit expired for the viewpoint now, and I made a call to Hobas and organized with Claudia free entrance for them, since their car was broken down and they couldn’t make it back in time.

When they left, they were happy and very appreciative off our help, they pointed out our mistake yes but said we did not leave them stranded to sort it out by themselves but took the time to sort out our mistake and do whatever we could to help them.

Kind Regards, Mariette Smit

Great stopover when visiting Fish River Canyon. The hotel is clean, well maintained, and has a very nice price quality balance. Detail you can’t miss is the route 66 roadhouse style of the hotel. Although it is not my personal style, I loved the detail and attention used to apply this style in every detail. The quality of the road towards Fish River Canyon is troublesome and you cannot drive faster than 40 km/m. Towards Seeheim the quality is perfect and close to Tarmac quality. Speeds of up to 120 are doable. Seeheim will take you approximately an hour.

The exterior and restaurant littered with old cars gives this place a delightfully quirky touch but our room was pretty basic for the price. The restaurant looks great but service
Is not great with wrong food being delivered on both nights and rather indifferent quality.
