Lakefront Setting - Clean and Comfy!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Oct 2024
We stayed here overnight while making the trek to Mackinac Island. The reviews were not favorable but we decided to give them a chance and they proved their negative reviews to be wrong. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and taken care of very kindly and professionally. The place is a little outdated, but very clean and charming. The decor was beautiful, very ornate and charming. The artwork was amazing as it appeared to be done by local artists. The room was clean and very comfy, and the breakfast was great. Kudos to the girl running it as it was busy and crazy, she kept the food hot and full. I would definitely stay here again and also want to mention it is in a great location to walk to restaurants, shops and the ferry of course!

I have stayed here at this hotel 3 times in the past 15 years. Nothing is ever updated; in fact it’s only getting worse. The view of the lake is amazing! First impression this time was that the staff didn’t really care about our needs. It’s the off season and I asked for an extra pillow with the response that they might be able to get one. You are a hotel. You should have extra towels, pillows, blankets, etc. The rooms smell like mold. The jacuzzi was grungy. The wallpaper is peeling off of the walls and it looks like someone without any experience in maintenance attempted to patch things up all over the hotel.
Breakfast: 2 hours to get through a long line of people attempting to obtain 4-5 breakfast options. As a hotel you should provide some nicer amenities, at least decent coffee. This will be our last visit. I suppose since you’re on the water and when the all the hotels are full you will remain an option and people will continue to pay. This hotel has so much potential. It’s a shame that whomever owns it hasn’t invested much, if any money in updating it.

Room tip: Pay extra if you need to for a nicer hotel.

Room smelled very musty, front desk staff were rude, couldn't use the pool because the chlorine was so bad our eyes were burning just being in the room. Nice to have a beachfront room, but couldn't keep our patio door open on a beautiful day because people are throwing food to the seagulls from their balconies.

Room tip: Dont stay here.

The WORST place ever and we spent a lot of money since there were 3 families. They don’t care and to top it off the manager who refused to give her name when my daughter complained her key cards were not working proceeded to tell my daughter she is a US citizen. WTH does that have to do with key cards that don’t work smelly rooms snd a spicket to wash your feet doesn’t work. Rude people snd they don’t care. By the way we are US citizens as well

A wonderful place to stay if you are in the Mackinaw City area. The Hamilton Inn was a very clean hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hot breakfast bar was great with a lot of choices. I will recommend Hamilton Inn Select to all my friends and family. Doreen L. September 2024

We chose this as it was beachfront-so expensive in my book $300. Arrived to remote with no batteries (two tries for tech to figure out TV), chair broke on the patio-not obvious and could have been hurt bad if sat in. TV wires hanging down in main room, BOX and wires hanging down in whirlpool bath, caulk peeling around tub, wallpaper twisted. Looked like a $50 room. Made the very bad decision to use the whirlpool anyway-after a short time I had a LONG hair wrapped around my hand. I have short hair! So disgusting and revolting. Paid $300 and NO price adjustment was made. Chamber do a better job of checking the hotels you recommend.

Room tip: Don’t stay here.
