While the word "modern" may not come to mind when you think of Mackinac Island, Bicycle Street Inn & Suites is just that. It is nice and newer and we enjoyed our stay immensely. While we have stayed on the Island before at other hotels and resorts, we probably won't stay anywhere else but here in the future. It fit our family of five perfectly with two queen beds in one room and a pull out sofa in a separate living area. There were also two separate TVs, a nice big bathroom and huge shower, and just plenty of space for us to relax after an active day of biking and hiking. The only downside was our balcony being pretty close to some horse stables and the nice aroma that comes from that. But, I guess what do you expect on an island full of horses?! From the very beginning when I made the reservation, to check-in, to check-out, the staff was so kind and helpful. They even gave our girls each a stuffed horse and our boy a horse-shaped carabiner. Such a fun thing for them!

You can't beat the location of the Waterfront Collection. We travel to the island annually and decided to try a modern hotel room. Positives: room was clean, great location. Even though there is not a restaurant onsite, Goodfellows will make you an omelet for $5. The omelets are delicious. Negatives: Pillows were so thick, sleeping on them were uncomfortable. The thermostat in the room is not 100% controlled by the guests, so it was warmer than we would prefer at night. This hotel is right by the ferry docks, so every 30 minutes, a horn sounds when the boats leave until 11 pm. Not ideal for napping children or for families who go to bed before 11. Also, there is no bathtub in the hotel rooms. The shower is a very basic plastic shower.

Room tip: Third floor is probably best.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for staying with us at Bicycle Street Inn! Thank you as well for the positive comments on our cleanliness and location. It's great to be on the beautiful bay right in the middle of downtown Mackinac Island fun and next to the ferry boats. We apologize the ferry boat horns surprised you. As a safety requirement, they must signal with their horns when they are departing the dock, particularly in the evening.

We are also glad you enjoyed our giant omlette! As you mentioned we do not have a full service breakfast restaurant, instead we provide a nice continental at no additional charge to all of our guests. (We are one of a very few hotels on The Island that include any type of complementary breakfast with a stay and I agree the $5 giant custom omlette is a delicious steal!) I also apologize if our custom-made pillows were too thick. We do put big fluffy pillows on our beds, but we also have a variety of thickness available upon request. I also wish we had known during your stay of your concerns with the air conditioning. They are the latest in Mitsubishi equipment each is solely controlled within the waterfront guest's room. Lastly, in the waterfront collection most of guest rooms are furnished with showers made of a compost granite material with large glass doors, but we do have guest rooms with a bathtub available, if that is your preference.

We hope you will come stay with us again. Next time, let us know you would like one of our thinner pillows, a guest room with a bathtub and a view of downtown not the bay and we will make sure to accommodate your requests. Thank you again!

Best regards,
Melanie

Since we were driving north 5 hours then ferrying over, This lovely, impeccably clean, and most friendly well located spot was perfect. The reception staff bent over to make us feel welcome as we had secured the last hotel room on the island, an atrium suite. Window overlooks the center of this boutique hotel.
Comfortabl beds, crisp cotton sheets, refrigerator in the sitting room, and all he amenities, The Bicycle suites are ideally located in the middle of Main Street directly across from the Ferry. Great voice for all.

We stayed for one night in July. The room was very modern and comfortable. The front desk staff and porters were helpful. The hotel is right across the street from Shepler's Ferry so you can wheel your luggage yourself if you want. I don't know how anyone can post a poor review of this hotel - we had a wonderful experience at the Bicycle Inn!

Room tip: We had an atrium view room and it was great - Mackinac Island is busy so if you want peace and quiet don't stay in the downtown.

My family stayed in an Interior View Balcony Suite room at this hotel for 2 nights in July. I loved pretty much everything about it.

The pros -- 1. It's across the street from Shepler's Ferry (and a block from Starline Ferry). 2. Breakfast is included at the attached restaurant, so that's one meal you don't have to worry about. 3. Locked bicycle storage is available in the basement if you bring your own bike. 4. The hotel is VERY CLEAN and the furnishings are new and modern. 5. The 2-room suite was a great arrangement for our family -- the big kid slept peacefully on the sofa sleeper while we kept the (sometimes noisy) baby with us. 6. If you're traveling with an infant, they have travel cribs available so that's one less thing to bring on the ferry! 7. If you're traveling with a kid, there is a Lego store and display on the main floor of the hotel.

The (very few) cons:
1. "Interior view" can mean "overlooking the stables," so don't count on using your balcony unless you'd like a strong whiff of horse. (To be fair, most of downtown smells like horse...you get used to it!) 2. The "atrium" design means noise can filter up from the shops below. During the busy part of the day, you'll likely hear quite a bit in your room.
