“Missed the Mark”

The cottage itself is very nice; and it is in a beautiful spot. However, the owners have really let the furnishing and equipment slide.

The dryer is not plugged in, because the outlet is incorrect and they haven't gotten around to having an electrician make the modification. There's a faux leather recliner that is caved in and unusable. The other recliners and couches are ancient and threadbare, and filthy, really. The DirecTV receiver is shot. Every mattress is stained and well past it's useful life. There's a ceiling fan and light in the upper level controlled by a broken remote: so no light or circulation up there: had to move the two working lamps upstairs (there was already one broken one up there). The light fixture in the kitchen that gives light over the stove is either broken, or is on a seperate and hidden switch.

Many of these problems are highlighted by guests who have stayed and written in the little guestbook journal; so they are either aware and don't fix the problems, or never bother to check. This is very disappointing, because this cottage could really be a paradise if they just put some effort in to fixing stuff and replacing some of the older furnishings. They've done a great job building and presumably renovating, keeping the property maintained, and a couple of nice docks. Based on some of the paraphernalia inside, it looks like this has been a family cottage since it was build in the mid-1900s. Considering that, you'd expect the inside would be better kept.

Thank you for the feedback. We do everything we can do and afford to make the guest experience better and more enjoyable, but we must prioritize projects. 4 years ago we remodeled the upstairs and built new beds. 3 years ago we remodeled the kitchen and painted the basement. 2 years ago we painted all outbuildings and re-roofed the garage. This year we painted the cabin, decks, dock and tables and re-sided the garage. This are some of the examples for work projects we do every year.
The dryer is just replaced and the plug issue is waiting the electrician's arrival. It is scheduled.
The satellite receiver is new
We will fix the upstairs light before the next rental season.
The mattresses are not that old and are not stained as you imply.
The furniture is a bit worn and we will begin replacing as we can afford to do so.
We have the cabin professionally cleaned after every rental.
We love our cabin and do everything we can to upgrade it and provide a very good experience for our guests. We listen to feedback both verbally and in writing. and attempt to address every issue.
