A nice Sunday brunch experience, but I recommend you get there early if you don't want a long wait. Their baked goods are delicious.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed having brunch with us. All of our baked goods as well as the granola and gelato are made from scratch right here on the premises. In the coming weeks, we'll be gearing up with new offerings for the holidays. Hope to see you again soon!

Cheers,
The Southfield Store team

Part of our package at The Old Inn on the Green included lunch here. We were offered soup or salad, sandwich and dessert and were allowed to take it out. Everything was great.

Thank deaconrs

Everyone raving about place, but... We came as part of deal, lunch here included. Ordered 2 tuna sandwiches, one on rye, one on challah, both were STALE! Soup included was very good, dessert, excellent. Sound good, so far? Beverages not included. Price $3.00 each for small coffee with refill! Come on, with Starbucks card, I pay less than that with unlimited refills. Despite what others say, place is a "dive", primarily suited for locals, who probably get better deals. Only gets 2 stars because dessert and soup were fine.

Dear Mr. Berger,

To start, let us apologize. We're very sorry that you had sandwiches made with bread that was stale. That should never happen. It is not our norm and we would gladly have made new sandwiches for you, had we known you were unhappy with them for any reason. We are glad to hear that you liked the rest of your lunch. As for your other comments, we don't understand, and feel the record needs to be set straight.

For the record, your "details" are incorrect. A small cup of drip coffee at The Southfield Store costs $1.75 and includes tax, and a refill is .75. So for $2.50 each, you each got 2 cups of coffee, costing you $1.25 per cup in the end. And I might add, we serve freshly made, locally roasted coffee! The coffee and drink prices are not kept a secret. They are listed for all to see on a chalkboard right above the area where you order it. And of course, you can always ask.

As you mentioned, you came as part of a dinner/lodging package that you purchased on line from a third party. Included in the package was a 2 night stay in the room of your choice, a 4 course dinner for two, a 3 course lunch for two and breakfast for two both mornings. The information is posted right on the website page where you made your purchase, but of course we can't guarantee that folks read it. It sounds like maybe before you purchased the package, you did not actually read where it explains what is, and is not included. Not included are tax, gratuities and beverages you might have with lunch and dinner. What you did not mention is that the package you bought is deeply discounted, meaning you paid less than half of the actual value of the goods and services you received. The conditions of the package were clear on the website and were most likely repeated to you again over the phone when you called to reserve your room. We're sorry you missed those details, but they should not have come as a surprise to you.

You also wrote another separate review of your dinner experience with us, sighting a similar shocked reaction to the cost of a glass of house wine. When guests sit down to have dinner with us, they are first asked if they care for a beverage and/or if they would like to see our wine list. When you declined to even look at the wine list and instead simply asked the server to bring you "a glass of the house wine", it's hard to understand how you can imply that you had been misled in some way or that the information was not made available to you. Are you beginning to see a pattern here? That is, the apparent tendency to either ignore or not bother to look at the information that is provided to you regarding prices. Then, when you don't like the price, you insult us and make up stories about "hidden costs", looking for someone else to blame.

We make mistakes for sure, we are far from perfect, but we want everything we do and offer to be the best it can be. That's why we seek out the best, highest quality ingredients for everything we offer, often organic and/or local. There is a cost AND a value associated with providing this level of quality. While we completely understand we are not within everyone's budget, we EMPHATICALLY stand behind our products and our pricing. The Southfield Store is a small, family owned café/bakery and yes, coffee shop. To compare us with a multimillion dollar, nationally known chain like Starbucks is misleading. You may not have cared for the look of it, (after all, to each his own), but to describe The Southfield Store as a "dive" is simply a vindictive lie and to suggest we have different pricing for locals versus people just visiting the area is not only untrue, but also insulting. And what do you actually mean when you say "primarily suited for locals" ?

Apart from the legitimate concern regarding the sandwiches, our worst offense seems to boil down to the fact that we were simply not "a good fit" for you. While we do regret that, it is what it is, and does not warrant your nasty and sarcastic remarks.
Unfortunately, in the end, reviews like this one are just a waste of everyone's time.

The Southfield Store looks like well a roadside store. The food is excellent. Had a faro salad with amazing dressing. Had a sandwich with gluten free bread that was so delicious I had to check to make sure it was really gluten free. Lunch was divine. Key lime pie was so delicious.

We knew of this place because of its connection to the Old INN. We've been here 4 or 5 times in as many years and always off season so for us it's always got a casual vibe and we have never waited long for an order. Service is friendly and the decor is just right. I'd be here a lot of I lived nearby.
