We had such an enjoyable evening last week at John Andrews Farmhouse Restaurant. We loved everything about it, from the setting, service, food, and ambiance. The slightly rustic 'farmhouse' setting feels perfect for the Berkshires, and the back porch and grounds add to the setting. The wait staff managed to find that balance between being attentive without being over-solicitous. They were very helpful in finding the right glasses of wine for our dishes, something that I have found few restaurants willing or able to accomplish; they want to sell you bottles of wine, as opposed to by the glass.
The salads and appetizers were well-prepared, and the main dishes were all a little more complexly-prepared, which made the difference between a competent dish and a memorable one. The scallops were the best, but so was the duck and the lamb. We also tried a pork meatloaf, which was quite unique with a rich sauce. We ended with some small scoops of homemade ice cream, which was the crowning touch. Each flavor was better than the next, with the mint chocolate chip being the best of this flavor that any of us had ever tasted.
Prices are high, but fair for the quality and presentation. Portions are large, so you may want to economize by sharing dishes. The first time we came here, each of us ended up taking some of our meal home.
