Had a fantastic time at the start of the autumn season at the Stagecoach Tavern. We were staying at the B&B; Racebrook Lodge that is also on the premises and were told it was a must to eat there.. The Stagecoach did not disappoint. The ambiance was lovely with a definitive colonial charm. Food was scrumptious and drinks were spot on. Bartender was fantastic. Our waitress was a bit slow and forgetful (but it was her first day and probably her first gig as server; but very cordial..so she is forgiven)....

We had a range of what they had to offer: a few appetizers, mains, dessert, local Berkshire brews and signature cocktails. The experience was great overall. Reservations are highly encouraged. It is a popular culinary experience for those who are not staying on the premises.

Enjoy the Berkshires!

Going to the Stagecoach Tavern for dinner is stepping back in time to soak up the ambiance of an earlier era. The real deal, as authentic as it gets. Candlelit tables, a wood burning fireplace in colder months, friendly waitstaff, good food. We both had the wahoo special on a quiet Sunday night in early April. My wife found her fish to be good, mine seemed overdone but we enjoyed our dinners including the apple crisp desert we shared. The tavern is located on a quiet country road, a perfect setting for the tavern. We've eaten here a half dozen times. Go for the atmosphere and you'll have a good experience.

We ate here two nights while staying at Race Brook Lodge. First nights meal was quite nice (filet and salmon entrees). Second night not quite as good, but ok. Would gladly go back. Charming 1750s era original structure. Very nice service.

We had been driving all day and were moderately hungry. With only three places to eat in Sheffield, we picked the TripAdvisor #1 place which was right next to the Race Brook Lodge, our accommodations for the night.

The Stagecoach Inn is very dark in a very old building. But, it doesn't have to smell. Nearly gagged when we came in a side door next to our B&B. There were smells in the dining room, as well, that a good ventilation system should be able to handle. Lots of old wood, too, but it doesn't have to be sticky.

As for the food, it was fairly good but nothing special. We shared the main course and appetizers between the two of us. The fish fry was hot, not overlooked, but much more than the typical fish fry at $22. Bree and crackers with a little salad. Tomato and mozzarella with greens. No drinks. That with the fish came to $49...a bit pricy, I'd say. Pleasant wait staff. In and out in an hour.

Dear Chip,
Thanks so much for your review! I'm glad you thought the food was fairly good and I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy the atmosphere. Most people really love the feeling of the old tavern. It takes a lot to maintain an old building like that and we really appreciate all the feedback! Can you elaborate on the smell, what did it smell like? And what was sticky? I'm so sorry about that. Thanks for letting us know so we can be sure nobody else has to experience the sticky wood again.
All the best,
Casey
