Recently visited Esselon Cafe and it was really good. Very vanilla pancakes - almost tasted like cake! Great service even though it was very very busy. Be prepared to wrangle a table - you order first and then they bring the food to you - a bit difficult if you have a large party, but doable with outside seating. Everyone at our table had breakfast faire - eggs, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes - all left full and happy. Great place for families as they have lots of outside room for little ones to run around. Would recommend!

This was my wife's second visit to this establishment and my first. We both agreed it would be our last. Major props for using natural foods and local farms, but absolutely nothing we ordered was flavorful. My wife cut the roof of her mouth on the hard edges of the grilled crusted bread from her turkey sandwich. My margarita pizza was less flavorful than had I had crackers and cheese at home. My Italian soda was heavy on the carbonation and light on the flavor. Even the flourless chocolate torte was one of the least enjoyable chocolate desserts we ever had - very dry, little taste. Very disappointing lunch for just under $40.

This little place was hopping today! They had a great coffee bar and we had baked goods. The omlettes and oatmeal that went past us looked great too. The parking lot is small and leaves a little to be desired but otherwise great. On the main drag and near the trail. Definitely worth stopping.

Esselon by far has the best coffee in the area, with Share Coffee as a close second -- this specifically is just the coffee quality.

Putting that aside, the food has gone downhill at Esselon over the last couple of years as it often does as places look to eke out more proft margin. Esselon, as far as I can tell, has mostly made portions smaller. One piece of toast vs two, maybe slightly reducing the amount of eggs in the egg dishes, etc.

In any case, the food is still fine, but not nearly what it once was. But the coffee is great.
