If you are looking for a quiet beach holiday with luxury rooms and very good service outside the hustle and bustle of the big all-in resorts, this is your place to stay! We have spent 5 nights in Punta Rucia Lodge for New Year with our 7 year old son. Our beach "cabin" nr. 6 was the first one facing the ocean, on the beach and next to the swimming pool. Perfect! Nothing more relaxing than opening your doors in the morning and hearing the sounds of the ocean and the singing birds. The rooms are spacious and tastefully designed. Our son had to sleep on the sofa which was made up as a bed. It is rather narrow so we had put cushions on the floor next to him in case he would fall out of it - which he did, so good that we had thought of the cushions The rooms have a nice big terrace from which you can watch the beach. Not recommended by night because of the mosquitos. We booked room + breakfast, but actually always had dinner in the hotel too because there is in fact not much else to go to nearby. The food was good, some dishes better than others, and nicely presented. The cocktails were delicious and something I appreciated is that they were always served in a glass, even on the beach and next to the pool. For lunch we always walked along the beach to either Punta Rucia (good Italian pizza at Lino's pizzeria, tables in the sand!) or playa la Ensenada (line-up of local sea food shacks). The bay is beautiful and so quiet. The views are priceless. We loved it but I would not recommend it to party-people!

We have been in the Dominican Republic for over a year and a half.
The Punta Rucia Lodge is the best place we have been to so far.
The staff is beyond accommodating.
The lodge is clean and very well taken care of.
The beach is breathtaking while being quite and private.
Our breakfast and dinner were included, even if they had not been we still would have eaten all our meals in the lodge restaurant.
The staff is second to none and the food was beyond delicious and fresh. Please if you are planning a trip to the Dominican Republic you will be missing out on one of the most beautiful places in the country.
You must make a day trip to sand island.
The lodge is more than helpful to make all the plans for you.
Our best experience in the Dominican Republic so far.
Thank you Brenda Near

Perfect service, crystal white beach, blue water and great food. Get a beach cabana facing the water; one of only 12 on the property, you will have lots of privacy in a paradise like setting away from the rest of the world. Here you will feel more like you're in Tahiti than the Dominican. This is certainly an atypical setting and worth the money for a couple of days and perhaps longer if your finances allow and you like isolation. It's close to everything in the village of Punta Rucia but everything here is two hours from Puerto Plata. This is where I'd want to hide if I were through with the rest of the world. The cabanas are well air conditioned (important for me) with modern appointments you'd expect to see at a Hyatt or Marriott property. This hotel stands by itself in the area, I didn't see anything else like it though a couple certainly looked inviting and comfortable. I'd certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone else.

This place is like a dream...amazing blue water that changes color as the sun moves through the sky, with a hotel that is super chic in a rustic way...pleasant staff, and a great place to relax and disconnect from the modern world and enjoy nature in peace. Oh and the stars at night, not to be missed!

We spent 8 nights at Punta Rucia Lodge in November 2015. We had booked just 3 days ahead of time looking for a relaxed getaway for myself, my wife and our 22 month old son.
We could not have found a better place for the three of us. The lodge is both luxurious and down to earth at the same time. Certainly not your all-in resort, but rather small and intimate with very personal and attentive service. It feels more like a semi-private beach cottage than anything else.
Our "house" (deluxe version on the beach) was literally on the sand and 60 feet from the water. We had our own deck and "sandbox" (the beach) for our son directly outside. As a matter of fact every house has their own private space and lots of room on the beach. Our house was serviced every day, in superb condition and absolutely clean. The grounds are brilliantly architected between functional and natural and cleaned every day despite it being off-season.
While our house was on the other side of the property from the restaurant, it took us less than a minute to walk there. Yet we had all the privacy one can ask for.
The restaurant is set around a pool with beautiful views towards the water. The food was fresh everyday with lots of lobster on the menu. And every request we had for our son (ie milk at night or extra veggies for lunch) were happily cared for.
The grounds were also perfect for our son. He could walk everywhere and we never needed to fear to lose track of him. There is a trampoline on the beach that he loved as well as the baby pool, that the team set up for him. The regular pool is not only perfectly set towards the beach but also easy to access with a kid.
We did not go onto any trips aside from a stroll to the village and spent the days between the pool area and the beach or somewhere in between.
Most importantly however, aside from the perfect architectural fit, is that the staff is one of the most welcomed we have ever encountered. Traveling with a toddler is not always easy, but the entire staff made us not only feel welcome but integrated. He was called "the little yankee" by some and everyone from the restaurant to reception and the beach crew joked with him. They procured diapers for us from a nearby town when we ran out and brought toys for dinner to play with almost every night.
It is worthy to note that it took us 2.5 hours in the car from Santiago to get to Punta Rucia, but we paid that price happily knowing we were in a somewhat remote location, very naturally set in the real DR. And the lodge supplied the transport very effectively.
For anyone looking for a farther a field getaway in the DR we highly recommend the lodge. Perfect for kids or couples alike as long as one does not expect nightlife entertainment but sheer relaxation.
Thank you to everyone at Punta Rucia Lodge for this great and relaxing week.
