Another of Fairhaven's architectural masterpieces, this Unitarian church looks more like a gothic cathedral. The stained glass, wood carving, and stonework are all magnificent.

This beautiful church, built by Fairhaven's benefactor, Henry Huttleston Rogers, is a gem of architecture. Gorgeous wood carvings, magnificent stained glass and unique features which spared no expense can be viewed during the summer months and special occasions when tours are provided on Tuesdays and Thursday's from 2. -4. The historic building is maintained by a dedicated congregation of Unitarian Universalists. Worship services are held on Sunday mornings at 10:30 September through June. Smaller worship services are held during the month of August.

This Gothic structure stands as a sentinel to the divine in the center of Fairhaven. Its ivy-covered exterior with a huge gate doorway that leads into the sanctuary or out into a beautiful garden in the back. The building exudes a cathedral ambiance until you get inside where you find the simple lines of New England Puritanism blended with Unitarianism that pulls the congregation back into a contemplative mode without external decoration (Compare UMC with St. Anthony's of Padua in New Bedford to see the contrast in New England Christianity's liturgical settings.) An active congregation whose active community outreach puts into the center of the life of Fairhaven beyond its architectural masterpiece.

The church looks like it was dropped out of Europe, great architecture. The ideal place to plan a wedding or wedding pictures.

During the summer months, you can tour this building on Tuesday and Thursdays. Even you aren't lucky enough to get inside, take a walk all around the exterior and discover the intricate stone carving and metal work of this magnificent structure. If you are around on Sunday morning, treat yourself to the laid-back Unitarian Universalist style of services.
