We opted for a suite in one of the cottages and we feel we made the right choice. The accommodations were spacious and the grounds were beautiful. The front porch with rockers that look out on the Edgartown lighthouse makes the place very special. We had a few issues but overall were pleased with our choice to stay here. The concierge Darlene went out of her way to make sure all of our questions were answered and our needs were met, she was great! She knows the island inside and out, seek her out when you get there!! We had a really amazing lunch in Henrys the pub and the service there was very good. We hope to return again in the future.

Room Tip: Cottages or room on the front of the main old hotel section, facing the harbor.

We stayed at the Harbor View Hotel for 2 nights. The room was nice and spacious, yet the carpet on one side of the bed was soaking wet. Maintenance came right away to look at it and offered to move us to another room. We had already unpacked so we declined the offer, so they came back with bath mats so we wouldn't walk on the wet floor.

The bathroom was okay, except the ceiling was starting to blister in places, perhaps linked to the water issue.

Meals and service was fine. The best part was the hotel's front porch, overlooking the magnificent view of Edgartown Lighthouse. The hotel is also about a 10-minute walk to the center of town and the docks.

At first glance this is a stunning property. Staff was helpful and friendly. However, to walk to the 3 level building where most of the rooms are located one must zig-zag through the main building. No elevator to the third floor. Floor surfaces on all outdoor landings in this building are deteriorated and in need of replacement.

Room needing better cleaning, attention to detail, and repair of broken tiles. Bathtub surface is slippery, no grab rails: a hazard for falls. We started with 2 bathrobes, but next day there was only one.

Our group stayed at this old hotel for two nights. We found the staff to be rather uncaring overall. We experienced total chaos upon arrival.. We were given four different room assignments before we finally found a room that was unoccupied. Finally I was able to speak with the manager in charge who eventually found us a room about one and one half hours after arrival. We were not the only ones to experience this. Note to future guests - lock your door from the inside or you may be walked in on by a stranger. Staff has an attitude that because they work on MV they are "special". Well they are not and management has a problem. The building is very old and our room and hallways smell of must and other unknown organic aroma. The interior walkways are dirty and has debris such as dried leaves and dirt. The floors on the balconies and stair landings are so worn that several layers of plywood show through. Our balcony was in extreme need of painting. This is an overpriced old property that has seen its better days. The owners need to pocket less profit and invest in major upgrades.

We decided we wanted to stay at this hotel the last time we were on MV because of its wonderful location and beautiful lobby. Don't be fooled like us! The room we had was worn out, beat up and sad. Deferred maintenance is an understatement! From the musty smell, dated bathroom, peeling wallpaper, stained carpet, chipped and scuffed trim, dirty curtains to the broken balcony banister, this place is in desperate need of an update. The price ($299 in Sept.) doesn't justify the quality. The staff was friendly and the towels were fluffy, thus a "2" was earned. One of the most spectacular locations on Martha's Vineyard deserves better stewardship and I hope she finds it soon.
