Our family of four (parents with our 20-something daughters) rented this nicely renovated historic home in a downtown location... just blocks from the ocean. We went to Chatham for a long weekend and loved being able to walk to multiple restaurants and blocks of shops. And, there are many different ways to walk to the beach and Mill Pond. The house is clean and comfortable with a double living room/family room. The eat-in kitchen has most anything one needs for vacation meals.
While this home worked perfectly for us, I would not recommend it for parents with crawling children. The floors are the original antique wood with large gaps in several places. Also, if you require a private "luxury master suite", you will not find it here. The king bedroom is on the first floor with glass French doors opening to the kitchen, next to a simple bathroom. We did not mind at all and slept great!
Tip: Mid to late September on the Cape is perfect. The crowds are gone, the weather is nice, and all the shops and restaurants are still open. Our morning walks on the nearly deserted beach were completely peaceful and beautiful!
