“Sanctuary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

Black Walnut Point Inn is located in the midst of a wildlife sanctuary but the sanctuary is for more than the wildlife. The beautiful location and the caring innkeepers makes this as much a sanctuary for the guests as for the wildlife. The sunrise over the Choptank River is spectacular - we stayed in one of the cabins with a huge bedroom window that faced the sunrise. The sunset over the Chesapeake Bay was equally spectacular. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. We arrived in the middle of a storm with wind gusts into the 30+ range but inside the cabin it was quiet and cozy. The storm blew out overnight leaving us with a clear and blustery day. The location is perfect for exploring Tilghman Island, St. Michaels, and Oxford (which we did).

Room Tip: I don't think there is really a bad room. The cottages are right on the water and have a full k...

We have stayed at numerous B&Bs throughout the country, and the Black Walnut Point Inn is one of the excellent ones. The B&B is located within a bird sanctuary and is surrounded by water on three sides, giving you beautiful sunrise and sunset views. It is very quiet and relaxing, with various public rooms available - a living room with a gas fireplace, a sunroom and a screened-in porch. The breakfast is delicious, offering a nice variety of hot food, and there are snacks available, too. The innkeepers are very attentive, but not overly so, friendly and fun to chat with. There is a hot tub available (and they supply towels) so be sure to bring your bathing suit.

We made a last minute decision to go away for New Year's Eve and what a great decision it was! Our internet search for available bed and breakfast rooms turned up only a few in the busy St Michael's MD area and luckily one of them was at the Black Walnut Point Inn. We stayed in the attic hide-away room, which was really cute and just right for us. It's two dormer windows look out opposite sides of the house giving you a great view of everything, including sunrise over the Choptank River and sunset over the Chesapeake Bay! Bob and Tracy were just the kind of inn-keepers you hope for -- friendly & relaxed, very kind and attentive but not hoovering. We had a wonderful New Year weekend and are very happy we discovered the Black Walnut Point Inn.

We returned to BWP Inn for a 2nd trip, and it was just as marvelous as the first time... albeit the 50 degree temp difference! We met several new friends and just relaxed. What a great way to start the New Year!

My husband and I decided to spend the New Year weekend at the Black Walnut Point Inn.
This was our second time visiting together, and I had visited alone once.
We rented a cottage that was quaint as it was quiet.
The inn itself is in a state of flux with it's new owners getting the hang of innkeeping.
The inn now offers a full breakfast, even if you are in a cottage and not staying in the b&b.
This was very nice, since before only a cold breakfast of cereal was offered.
The cottages are small, but have a kitchen with a small oven, microwave, and toaster oven, dishwasher and coffee pot as well as a full size refridgerator.
The bedroom has king size beds and a lovely view of the water.
There is a nice porch with rocking chairs too.
The new hosts are very accommidating and friendly, and treat your respectfully.
We have not stayed in the b&b portion of the inn, opting instead to use the cottages.

Room Tip: Try to book a cottage, one level no stairs.
