Our grown son picked out this hotel. It was great to be close to the beach, but I prefer queen size beds, and we had doubles. The parlor/lobby/restaurant were lovely. The restaurant menu was a bit unusual and pricey for us, but I would surely have loved to try it if we had stayed longer.
The door to our room had about an 1 inch gap under it, and our son didn't close the door correctly and it was really open all night. That and the air were basically the noisest parts of the room. No frig in the hotel either. Low water pressure and peeling wallpaper (could see mildew under it-ugh). They don't clean behind the massive headboard and I could see all kinds of stuff-ugh! Parking was good. Internet service as ok.
A good choice for two people, not three.

Room Tip: Best for two adults-more is crowded in hotel room.

Pros: First trip to O.C. and loved the location. We enjoyed having a beer on the front porch or going downstairs to Kelly's to eat wings. You can sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and the bartender will take your drink order (slow service, but it was nice at sunset). The two second walk to the beach is awesome. We stayed in one of the apartments so having a kitchen/fridge helped offset some of our food costs since we we were able to bring breakfast and lunch items with us. Tons of shops and eateries close by.

Cons: We're not very picky, but I've got to say that our room was on the dirty side. (Grime in the toliet, around the toliet, etc).

We stayed here this week for two nights on a last minute booking. The Beach Plaza is well located on the Boardwalk and consists of a several story structure and a separate two story structure, which is the one we were in. We left our room, went through a small yard and through a fence and were on the Boardwalk. We arrived Sunday around 12 and we all thought they could have done better cleaning up the courtyard which the rooms surround. It may have been because a lot of people had just left that day, but there was no excuse for room service dishes to be sitting outside for several hours. The main building has a restaurant and also the ice machine is there but I didn't mind going over to get it. It was on the second floor and the elevator was real slow so I took the stairs The front desk staff was very helpful. Next to our place and down some stairs was Kelly's which had snacks and a nice breakfast available. I would not stay here again, there are simply too many places close by that had more. The Harrison Hall very close by had 24 hour coffee and a computer in the lobby for example. There is no pool but we knew that when we booked.

I like this hotel. My mother bf and i go every year and have since i was young. We stay on the efficiency side. The hotel is old and could use some updating but it is good for the price considering how expensive the boardwalk hotels are. The efficiency side is very open and nice to sit on the balcony and watch the sun rise. 13th street is a great place... if you go down you will find all the food and attractions. Up is mostly all hotels. Staff is nice.. they clean the room daily and are happy to change/give you fresh whatever you like.

ALWAYS have an issue with the refrigerator. Staff has always been good gotten it fixed and stored our food in the mean time. Manager even comped us a night which was totally unnecessary but very nice.

Stay here if you enjoy value and being able to cook your own food. Its a nice place for a beach trip. Not luxury but just what you may need.

Room Tip: Go for the efficeny. That side is nice and you can cook some of your own meals and save some money!

Stayed recently in an efficiency unit complete with kitchen and very generous closet space. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and thought the hotel was just as it should be for a beach vacation. Not too fancy and right smack on the beach. Staff very friendly and helpful and restaurant had top-notch cuisine. Bathrooms, however, need updating due presumably to sandy guests clogging up the drains! Will definitely be back!
