Just to clarify, "Jaws" has nothing to do with Sharks, whales or anything close to that. Its the nick name of this amazing guy who is the owner/host of the amazing property. The property is located within a gated villa community called Sunny Lake. The view from here is simply mesmerizing. The accommodation is quite spacious and well kept. It has a beautiful private lawn with some chic outdoor furniture. But more than any of the above, it is the grand hospitality and the company of Jaws that you would cherish. This guy is a rockstar in the true sense of the word. He has this amazing ability of entertaining his guests with highly engrossing conversations. Besides, he is passionate chef and comes up with some amazing dishes. If you're looking for something more than just a great accommodation and awesome food, just visit Jaws at Saattal and believe me you'll come back happier than you could imagine. Everyone takes home a lot to cherish for a lifetime from Jaws at Saattal ! Just a piece of warning though - keep a day or two spare as you are most likely going to extend your stay here ;)
JawsAtSattal is a tastefully decorated, peaceful home up in the hills. There's a garden, a view, great food that appears whenever you want it, and a host who lets you vacation exactly the way you want to.
The home itself is simple, tasteful, and comfortable. A beautiful and well-maintained garden overlooks a hilly vista, and was the perfect place for me to just sit and think, read, or listen to music. Inside, I was impressed by the high-quality bedlinen, spotlessly clean bathrooms, and the host's almost obsessive attention to detail.
Speaking of the host - you get exactly as much (or as little) company from him as you want. He's helpful but not obtrusive, knowledgeable about the area, and fun to be around. And boy, can he cook!
One of the issues I have with many homestays is the fact that you are expected to eat at specific times: usually, breakfast by 9am, dinner by 8pm. At JawsAtSattal, however, you are served whenever you feel hungry. Woke up late (the point of a holiday!) and want breakfast at 11am? No problem. Dinner at 11pm? Ditto. The host prepares the food himself (he should have been a chef, and I say this as a food writer.) He specializes in regional Indian cuisines, and takes genuine delight in your enjoyment of the food.
Great views, quietly elegant rooms, a fun host, fabulous food - and above all, the flexibility to holiday at your own pace. In other words - the perfect getaway.
This place was highly recommended, and it exceeded our expectations. Waking up to the chirping birds, witnessing the rising sun and a spectacular sky - we had all the ingredients for a blissful morning, away from the heat of Delhi, at this place. The sumptuous breakfast along with great conversations with other people staying at the property was what makes for a perfect holiday! You can go on nature walks, and if you don't mind the long treks, walk upto the Sattal lake (it is quite a distance!). You can also plan day trips to Nainital, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal etc. Great place for children to run around, lay in the grass and watch the most spectacular birds that visit the property. We would certainly visit again!
First of all, this is not one of your run-of-the-mill places for stay. It was a refreshing change to see someone running this out of sheer passion. We had ridiculous dietary requirements, but for the culinary ace in Jaws it was just another opportunity to display his wizardry. My children would surely have missed enjoying the magnificent views and surroundings had there been a TV in the room. Besides, every single day, we woke up to the glorious view of the customary twilight just before the sun rise. The warmth, personal touch and care that each one of us received was unparalleled. May God bless everybody involved at JawsAtSattal.
Got taken here by trusted friends and greatly enjoyed our stay. Met two young families there, one small kid each, very well-behaved. Everyone had come through personal recos. Can do nice day trips around to Bhimtal, Nainital, Mukteshwar etc, local cab easily arranged if no car. Thank God, no TV there and no noise. Seemed like a real refuge for mannerly, considerate people looking for a quiet, well-behaved sort of place where you can read, laze, sleep and wake up to fantastic home-made food, be it Mangalorean, Kashmiri, UP, Punjabi or Western, all magicked up by the host. Breakfast is included and you have to tell in advance if you'd like to have lunch/din as well. A unique feature is that they rustle up food 24/7, just like home, if you get up late. BYOB. I'd suggest you bring lots of books, ipad and some indoor board games and un-noisy toys for kiddies because it's a quiet B&B home stay place, not a typical 'hotel'. The rooms outside the main house have a fridge, micro and electric kettle for chai/coffee, fixings provided. Nice little lawns between the vine-wreathed, flower-edged cottages for evening gatherings, with a view of the hills and the stars. Totally clean linen and loos. Like to go again, that high quality of fresh home-made food and general cosiness+personal space was most unusual in my experience, the closest to 'a home of one's own' in the hills :)
