We love going to the park to walk and run around the lake, play at the playground, visit Bowie Fest (in June), ride the paddle boats, and go ice skating. There are also concerts, movie nights, a skate park and plenty of sports fields.

Allens Pond has been a mainstay of Bowie MD since there was a Bowie MD. The pond was owned by a farmer named James Allen, who established it as a fishing attraction and sold fishing rights for $10/year. In 1965 the pond was sold to Levitt and Sons, developer of Belair at Bowie and was deeded as a park and recreation area. The amphitheater was built in late 1960's.
It currently as multiple soccer and baseball fields, basketball courts (some lighted), skaters park, picnic areas with pavilions, playgrounds, walking and biking trails, large wooded areas and boat rentals. Stationary charcoal grills and picnic tablesare available by the pond, first come/first sold. There are is also an adjacent ice hockey rink with rentals available.
The park is well maintained by a large force of workers and is frequently patrolled by the Bowie Police, who do a fine job of maintaining peace and quiet.
The playgrounds for young children are fantastic and in great shape. The areas around swngs and slides etc have the cushioned rubber type surface to reduce scrapes and bruises.
The pond is well stocked and home to hungry geese who delight young and old when the come right up to those who feed them.
There are often youth soccer and baseball games being played ( in season) on the well maintained fields.
Allens Pond is a very safe and wonderful place to spend an entire sunny day with the family. Bring some extra chairs or blankets and have a cookout. With everything there is to do you will not be bored and will hate to have to leave at sunset when the parks closes. Ample parking is available

Allen Pond Park is a lovely park for a brisk or leisurely walk. it's a great place to check out my favorite crane if you get there at the right time of day. It's cool to watch the ducks and geese walk about, fly over the water and land on the water. I love to walk, run up/down the gazebo and continue my walk. That's a great workout.
Sunday evenings in the park are great to enjoy the live entertainment!!

Nice place for a walk around the water. The distance is pretty short though, so you have to get creative to get some real distance!

Great place to walk, sit, and take pictures. There are plenty of free parking. A little something for everyone. Nice sized soccer fields, baseball fields and 3/4 mile walking loop. There are basketball courts, skate park and huge play ground. You can fish in the summer or your can rent a area for a cookout. July 4th is always packed and they have a huge fireworks display.
