“The Quiet Side of MDI”
Reviewed 10 October 2010

Southwest Harbor is the perfect home base for exploring Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Away from the crowds and cruise ships in Bar Harbor, the scenery on this side of the island is no less spectacular, while still an easy distance to the coastal drives and hikes of Acadia. But don't think you have to go far for scenic coastal drives and great hiking! The trails around Long Pond, up Acadia Mountain and Beech Mountain will satisfy all levels of hikers, and the harbor towns, lighthouses and cove views nearby are a photographer's dream. Of course, every traveler to MDI has to visit Bar Harbor, don't think you have to stay there to get the best of Acadia and Mount Desert Island!

“Penury Hall, B&B”
Reviewed 12 August 2010

If you are seeking a B&B with a kind, friendly, informative hostess Penury Hall is just the place. Our Hostess Gretchen Strong could not have been more helpful, thoughtful, friendly, informative and generous to our every need. The rooms are well kept and comfortable and the location is within walking distance to good food, great ice cream and typical Maine hospitality. It is quite easy to get to hiking trails, bicycle paths and the Loop Road of Acadia National Park. Above all Gretchen gives you the feeling of being at home and very comfortable. What could be better!

“Southwest Harbor, Maine - Sail aboard Friendship Sloop 'Surprise'”
Reviewed 9 July 2010

One of the highlights of our week in Acadia was a trip with Downeast Sailing Adventures in Southwest Harbor. We sailed for two hours on the Friendship Sloop 'Surprise' with Steve. The boat is beautiful and was comfortable for our family of four. The price was reasonable for a family of four to have the boat to ourselves. Steve is a very experienced sailor with great local knowledge. We sailed by the Cranberry islands and even went past the house we rented so that we could see it from the water. The entire family - parents and two children (ages 10 and 12) loved the trip!
