“Perfect Getaway”
Reviewed 26 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Loved every minute there. A true lake country experience. The house is beautiful, rustic, charming. The care given to us by the owners was impressive . They were caring and made special effort to be sure we were comfortable. The house provided all we needed. We had many lovely meals in its big beautiful dining room. I loved swimming and boating in Walker lake which is unforgettable in its beauty. The whole experience was one of restfulness and peace. The big porch overlooking the water is a great place to spend hours doing nothing! And I love the town of Blue Hill. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a family vacation where they could get away from the rush of life.

“Like Coming Home”
Reviewed 8 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Another wonderful vacation in the prettiest, cleanest and most relaxing place you could hope for. Killkare is a classic Maine cottage that is kept beautifully by The Larsons. This past July, we had our second family reunion here and it was just as lovely at the first year. The lake is crystal clear and temperate, the wrap-around porch is heaven, the whole cottage is charming with plenty of room to spread out. The well-organized kitchen has more than everything you could possibly need for a classic Maine clam bake or a gourmet meal with fresh ingredients from the local farmer's market. And the place is exceptionally clean! The warm, professional, honest communication of Catherine Larson truly helped to ease and simply the organizing of a big family gathering. If you're looking for a real "Maine" experience in a beautiful, comfortable place, you can NOT do better than Killkare! We can't wait to go back next year!

“Everything We'd Hope For!”
Reviewed 23 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My big, boisterous family planned a family reunion in Maine and we could not be more pleased that we chose Kill Kare cottage. It is an absolutely wonderful, well loved, classic but spacious Maine cottage on the absolutely gorgeous, pristine, Walker Pond. Well, it's more of a lake, really, and it is just beautiful. Catherine, the owner, is very proud of Kill Kare as it has been in her family for years and, honestly went above and beyond to help us plan a perfect gathering for crowd. We planned a big opening night lobster dinner for 10 and placed an order for the seafood which Catherine and her husband kindly offered to pick up for us. Unfortunately, our fisherman sadly passed away just three days before our gathering, but Catherine and her husband managed to find another supply on very short notice. They picked it up and had the lobster, clams and haddock waiting on ice for us when arrived - ALL on July 4th. The cottage is extremely clean, well kept with every kitchen item you could possibly need organized and easy to find. All bedrooms have some view of the lake and surrounding woodlands. We spent all day on the gorgeous wrap around porch, playing games and watching the kids jump off the diving raft. We even got a couple nights that were cool enough to build a fire in the beautiful old fire place. There is plenty of parking and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The linens were all freshly laundered and plentiful. We even had a Pirate's Day with plenty of games and marauding...so much fun...and the Kill Kare porch was just perfect for it. We've already re-booked for next year and hope to make Kill Kare our yearly family retreat. This review is A+, 10 stars, for a beautiful fun place well cared for by intelligent, kind, helpful and FUN people who take a lot of pride in their family cottage. We all can not wait to go back!

“Gorgeous Home on the Quietest Lake”

My very large family (my sisters, their spouses, their children, my parents and my husband and son) stayed at Kill Kare in July and loved our stay. All of my communications for nearly a year before our arrival with owner Catherine were so easy and friendly that when we finally met in person it felt like meeting an old friend.

Catherine and her family have taken incredible care of this very special home and we really loved staying there. Every single room in the house looked exactly like the photos online, although pictures cannot really do the house and lake justice. The kitchen was the most well equipped kitchen I have ever encountered in a rental and Catherine has clearly spent a lot of time thinking of every need her guests might have. There were restaurant suggestions, maps and brochures for every attraction for miles around, even a listing of when large cruise ships dock in nearby Bar Harbor so you could pick a day to visit without crowds.

We pretty much lived on the porch during the parts of the week that we weren't exploring the gorgeous surrounding area and gorging ourselves on lobster rolls. The nearby towns and harbors were easy 15 minute to an hour drives away which made going on small side trips easy without feeling like you were missing a full day away from the beautiful lake. Walker Pond itself was so lovely and so quiet that you couldn't help but relax while sitting on the porch.

We had an absolutely wonderful time and would readily recommend the home to anyone looking for a grand old home on a beautiful lake in Maine.
