Our late arrival last year and awakening to the most beautiful inn on the waterfront, amazing gourmet breakfast and gracious hosts, Brenda and Mike Liston, left us with with a sincere desire to return this fall for a much longer stay. 14 friends joined me during the first 10 days before departing and, my sister is with me for the final 6 nights. The inn’s location makes it perfect for daily outings to the most spectacular highlights of this part of our country. All who joined me on this return left with a sense of awe and fulfillment with the state of Maine and our wonderful home away from home. Wine and cheese tasting with fresh fruits from the onsite gardens daily in the evenings at the Inn were included. Once again, my sister and I feel the need to return to our new fall home. Next fall my daughter will join us for a week of fall foliage, wonderful hosts and the best B&B I’ve ever experienced.

Room Tip: The Captain’s Suite and Havana Suite have 2nd & 3rd Floor balconies overlooking the waterfront...

It is always a treat to have wonderful guests who appreciate what we have created. Last year when you said you would return, we were delighted to think that you wanted to spend more time with us. This year was an absolute delight to meet all your friends and get to know each of you. You are all now a part of our family. We look forward to seeing you again next Fall!

This is the most beautiful and luxurious home I've ever stayed in. We were a group of 15 women gathered to celebrate our 30+ year friendship. Brenda and Mike welcomed us with a great glass of wine from their wine collection. Breakfast for 10 days with no repeats in the stunning dining room. The presentation of the three courses was magazine worthy. After our hearty breakfast we enjoyed walking through the garden and sitting by the bay. Cocktail our was a great time to gather, relax and enjoy the cheese, wine and fruit on the side porch. The antiques that Brenda has collected will amaze you! Beds were comfy and we enjoyed our own fire pits on our decks. All the ladies felt we were saying good bye to friends ! I can't say enough about the Maine hospitality.

Only spent one night here but the innkeepers are delightful and know the history of this property. It's beautiful with lovely views, flowers, and close to the ocean. The 3-course breakfast was amazing and we loved every moment we were there! Because it is a piece of history, it's an older inn, which adds to its character and loveliness. The innkeepers have updated rooms and bathrooms and have added beautiful furniture and décor.

This very large, elegantly furnished Sea Captain's residence on the Maine coast in Searsport is well-located, set back from Route One while backing to a sheltered slip of cove. In the days of tall ships, this was a busy port, but is a sleepy town now. It provides easy access to busier towns like Belfast and small historic gems like Castine. The Inn itself is lovely inside and out, offering welcoming outside porches on several levels and sides. One includes furniture grouped around a fire pit. Each morning begins with a lovely three-course breakfast, enough to keep you fueled all day. In the late afternoon, you are welcome to enjoy wine and cheese at your leisure. Take a walk on the extensive grounds, marked by gardens, abundant wildflowers, and a view of the sea. The proprietors are gracious and helpful, and run a spotless and historically impressive summer residence.

Great place not far from Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and other destination along the mid coast of Maine. Booked three nights but were able to add a fourth. Brenda and Mike are the owners and hosts and they are incredible folks. Beautiful historic mansion overlooking Penobscot Bay. Three course breakfast's that are fantastic and the best I've ever had. Wonderful grounds. Sit down by the bay on Adirondack chairs in the evening and light a fire, wonderful. They also do a nightly wine and cheese get together on the deck overlooking the water. Good wine, cheese, company and conversation. The owners used to run a restaurant on the property but it is not operational now. Should be. We stayed in the Port of Call Charleston room. Nice size with bath and shower. Good Wi-Fi reception. Could use a small refrigerator. Very nicely decorated as is the entire mansion. The two rooms facing the water are probably the largest and nicest rooms at the mansion but are hard to get without an advance reservation. One of the best B & B's I've ever stayed at. Made for a great vacation on the coast of Maine.

Room Tip: Two large rooms facing the water are probadly the finest rooms.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Captain A.V. Nickels Inn offers luxury accommodations in an historic setting. The Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1874 by Captain Nickels as a gift to his bride and remains almost the way he built it...just updated for todays conveniences. It is a breathtaking building sitting on 3 meandering acres directly on the island-studded Penobscot Bay about halfway between the beautiful towns of Camden and Bar Harbor. The Inn is often cited as one of the most photographed inns on the Maine coast and "creates a memory" for each guest who is treated to a level of luxury and attention to detail usually only seen in exclusive small hotels or inns in Europe. All rooms are furnished with European and American antiques, art, china and decorative touches creating the sophisticated air of a fine country home. Roaring fires on cool evenings, wicker on the lovely front porch, and lawn furniture by the water adds ambiance that invites guests to relax a while and enjoy the beautiful views from expansive windows or from the large decks overlooking the property. The bar is well stocked with a large selection of wines and local beers. Our bartender is always ready to mix our signature cocktails. Common areas include two sitting rooms, a library, a lounge, a dining room, a breakfast conservatory, a ballroom, and a loggia with views to the Bay. Evening wine and cheese is served to all guests. After having slept in spacious rooms beautifully furnished with antiques and sumptuous beds, overnight guests awake to the site of the sunrise across the bay and will enjoy a gourmet breakfast in the Inn's sunlit breakfast conservatory. Mimosa's always available on request. The murmur of waves from the Bay and wonderful sea air enhance the restful atmosphere. All rooms have private baths, flat screen TVs, wireless internet capabilities, coffee/tea service, and luxurious bath amenities. Some have electric fire places. The suites have balconies overlooking the Bay and comfortable lounging furniture. ... more   less
