“This place is disgusting!!”

Went here last weekend and will have to say it was the worst! It smells musty and the rooms are filthy, to top it off the staff is extremely rude, will never go back, i advise anyone thinking about staying here to find someplace else!

Stayed at the Inn just one night (had to leave to beat Hurricane Irene!). Room was cozy, absolutely immaculate and charming. The location was super. And the in-house restaurant was SUPERB!

We had a room with private bath but the community bathrooms were done with so much taste and amenities, I can see where they could be easily considered.

The Inn was a really bad experience for us. We were shocked when we entered the room to discover that the decor seemed from a long, long, long time ago. Furniture appeared extremely old, the floor was uneven, wallpaper and paintings were falling off, etc. etc. etc. Honestly, the room looked like a museum. Also, there was a disgusting smell in the room and in the bathroom (like in a museum or a horse stable). The drawers in the room were broken and smelled awful, too. There was no plug and no hairdryer. There was no space at all in the bathroom for personal items. Underneath our room (nbr. 2) there was a bar which was very busy until late at night (we went to bed at about midnight) and from which we could hear the noise in our room. It was also impossible to properly close or lock the door of our room or the bathroom. No elevator and very steep and narrow staircase. It felt like staying in a museum about lifestyle in the early 1900s. At almost 150 USD per night this was completely unacceptable. Generally speaking, we drove from Boston to Acadia National Park, and stayed overnight in Scarborough as it's close to Portland, the only 'natural' break on the way. I would try to do the whole way in one day next time or just stop for the night somewhere on the way in a basic motel not that overpriced.

Our family had a wonderful multi-night stay here in early June. Charming rooms - exceptionally clean and a simple, very tasteful decor. Very comfortable beds and sinks in the rooms were much appreciated. Coffee was ready early in the AM for sitting outside on the large front porch to watch the walkers/joggers stroll by. Great not having to pay for parking & yet walk just about 100 yards to be at the beautiful Higgins Beach. Close by (10 minutes or less) to all the sights/mall/downtown Portland. Grounds were well manicured. Entire property/Inn was very family friendly - as were the Inn owners Bob & Diane - not to forget CASH - the warm & welcoming Golden Retriever that greeted us (well, the kids....) upon our return each time. The Higgins Beach Inn is a rare (and affordable!) treasure - a place to stay as memorable as the place you are visiting!
