Owner description: The Coastal Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children ages 2-9 and their families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play about the natural world, the arts and sciences and the diversity of Maine’s coast. Our Core Values:* Each Child and parent/caregiver deserves respect.* Families are the first educators.* Learning occurs through play.* The Community is out first resource.* The Museum is responsible to the world and the environment. The Coastal Children's Museum opened at Sharp's Point South in the summer of 2009 and we are so excited about our new home and love seeing the children learning, playing and creating. Children (and their parents!) are exploring our indoor sailboat, CedarWorks indoor climber, and “Sharpie’s General Store”. The museum also hosts many species of tropical and Maine Coast sea life in our "Under the Sea Room" and our full size Gulf of Maine touch tank. We also have a daily craft at the art table , puppet theater, Tubes and Tracks, and a woodworking bench and wonderful puzzles and books all throughout the museum.Workshops, special guests, and family fun days are held at the museum entertaining and educating families on diverse topics. We have had programs on dance and movement, animals and insects, writing and poetry, and everything in between. You can also have your birthday party at the museum. My three year old girl has been to this great little gem on the south side of Rockland. Lots of interactive stuff for children in the preschool age. This place rivals the Portland children's museum as far as local exhibits. The puzzles are fun for parents as well. If you are in the midcoast area with small children this is a must won't be disappointed.

The museum was a nice find on a rainy day. Although modest in size, our 2 and 4 year old grandchildren found plenty to do for a couple of hours, and the staff was both friendly and helpful. Older children will have trouble finding things to do, but the toddlers loved it.

We keep coming back to the Coastal Children's Museum year after year, and are always delighted by it. Our kids - who range from 9 to 1 - can easily and happily kill a couple of hours there, making it a nice break from some of the more adult-focused attractions in the area. It's thoughtfully curated, with interactive exhibits covering sea life, carpentry, shapes, woodworking, veterinary medicine, boating, weaving, and cryptids. I wish we had something like this where we live!

Went an hour and a half before closing, kids had a ton of fun. Actually lost track of time playing. Something great for kids!

The museum is about 1 mile south of Rockland. year round it is open from Wednesday- Sunday. For July and August they add Tuesdays. As a small nonprofit, it is well worth the admission fee.

This is a small facility which has covered every inch of its' structure with things to do or, thoughts to ponder. Every activity is totally hands on. Included in activities- woodworking tool bench, touch tank, puffin cam, seed pictures, long art table with different activities, stage with puppets and or costumes, boat for reading in, sailboat for practicing, climbing equipment, legos, magnet things, sand tray, the best grocery, bakeshop and cafe all in one area., a vet's station with sick animals and equipment to tend them. My 5 and 7 year old grandchildren were nonstop for about 2 hours. They go about every other month and never tire of doing things there. I think the oldest age for sustained interest would be about 8 or 9-depending on the individuals.
