The window sign and shingle are subtle, but inside the vibe was delightful.
This is a small venue, with a couple of bars, few tables and a speakeasy too. We were curious to see the speakeasy and while busy, it wasn't our scene. Different music and menu. Luckily when we came back 2 spots open at the upper/back bar. It had a cozy and intimate feel with the bar and staff. While we saw all kinds of happy customers with wine and creative cocktails it was Maine Beer week and we sampled a few - also good! The small plate options were interesting, unique and delicious. It looked like many made this a stop on a mobile night around town but you could also plant there a while and make it your destination, especially for a late snack if you missed the "dinner hour". We did, and we were glad we did. Give it a try.

Oh, and the staff we interacted with were exceptionally friendly, and attentive. Well done!

For me the marks of a good cocktail program are, 1). Balanced Drinks, 2) interesting ingredients & spirits that I would never have @ home, 3) knowledgeable and friendly staff, & 4) a comfortable environment. Blyth & Borrows easily hit all four marks. If you're the kind of drinker that doesn't like to step outside of your comfort zone, this might not be your spot. But if you want to have a cocktail that not only tastes good but looks and smells amazing, be sure to stop by Blythe & Burrows. Be sure to try the Penny Cap.

Everything we ordered, both food and drink, was carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The specials of the day, both food and drink again were fantastic. For dinner, we had the Bao of the day, lobster roll, grilled oysters, and the meat and cheese plate, which was especially nicely done. My least favorite of the bunch was the grilled oysters. We also had a baked apple and pastry dessert. Everything seems to be shareable. There is a bar and tables as well as a "secret bar" which makes the place pretty cool. The servers were attentive and very carefully described the food when served. This is a great place for a leisurely stay, taking your time savoring the food and perhaps trying something new. Very impressive.

We picked this place because we were intrigued by the font on the window, of all things. We went twice. The first night we sat at a very busy bar and had a couple of cocktails.
My first drink was a Mezcal mix with a surprising amount of heat. It was creative enough that I was willing to try the porcini infused bourbon. Yes, porcini! This is my new favorite drink of all times. Pure genius in my new favorite cocktail bar. Sorry Apotek and Couch Kapitan, I loved you so!

Later in the week we returned to check out their small plates. We sat in the back room on a lovely banquette. The whole place is very well appointed, has a convincing back story and everything flows together in casual sophistication.
If this is too much for you, no worries, open the fake library door and go the back room, a casual bar and lounge...

The food was fantastic. Oysters, Sashimi and a great local cheese and charcuterie platter. The service friendly and attentive and the wine very good.

We will definitely be back and we strongly recommend it. Easily 4.5 stars.
