The location is amazing. View is terrific, house is terrific. Bed best I have ever slept in. Been coming to this area for years and Cove cottage is the best. Centrally located to Bar Harbor and surrounding area. Very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of places to walk. Will come back when I get the chance.
We arrived to find a well stocked and clean cottage. The views are really beautiful! The kitchen is up to date and the bathroom clean. The beds are soft but comfortable and the linen was of good quality. It was a pleasant experience to drive back to Lamoine after dealing with the crowds on Acadia. Our dog was very comfortable and had more than enough room to play. It was also short walk to the beach. We found a good place to purchase lobster from a local fisherman who sells and cooks lobsters from his home just a few miles away.
The cons are very few --- I new outdoor grill that did not work well, the owner had the grill replaced before we left. The screens on the sliding glass doors were torn from other dogs walking through them but it did not detract from our experience.
We would go back to the cottage!
My husband and I just spent our second summer in the lovely Cove Cottage. As we had come to expect from this first-rate rental, our 2-week stay was perfect. Even those extra-hot August days didn't bother us in this charming air-conditioned house. We just sat inside in total comfort, taking in the world-class view of Frenchman Bay and Mt. Desert Island. During our stay we had guests stay with us for a short visit; the accommodations for all four of us were just fine.
Previous reviews perfectly describe all that this cottage has to offer. (I'll add that pepper has now been included in the spice supplies!). I can recommend the Cove Cottage without hesitation. Book it while you can!
This cottage has a spectacular view, and is a well appointed (recent reno?), clean, comfortable home for a peaceful vacation get away. It sits on a hill above a rocky shore (down 20-30 steps) overlooking a cove off of Frenchman's Bay. The photo in the description is from the deck - it is magnificent! We could see Cadillac Mountain and much of Acadia - though we were about 30 minutes away from Bar Harbor.
There are 2 small sandy beaches nearby (one a short walk from the cottage). But we spent almost all week on the large, well furnished deck taking in the views. We brought a hammock and I recommend it - there are sturdy 4x4's on the deck that made a perfect hanging spot. We were tempted to sleep out there a couple nights!
There are 2 bedrooms with incredibly comfortable beds (a Queen and a King), one with the same ocean view as the deck). The single bathroom includes a nice washer/dryer (with detergent) and a shower (apparently the tub is broken, but they had told us ahead of time we wouldn't have a tub). Excellent linens supplied. There was a slight unpleasant odor by the toilet that I am sure they will rectify - not a reason to pass this place by.
The kitchen was large and easy to navigate, and had a coffee maker, rice cooker, plenty of dishes, pots and pans, supplies like ziploc bags and foil. We were disappointed that there were very few of the basics for cooking - there was salt but no pepper, for example. As frequent renters via this and other sites, we have become accustomed to fridges having some basic condiments, basic spices, etc. It didn't ruin the trip, but we ended up buying a bunch of things to use a couple times then bring home (where we already have plenty).
The living room has a large screen TV and 3 "media recliners," large recliners that move with the push of a button. They are awesome, although they are large so there are only 3 seats in the living room. When we had friends over for dinner we relaxed on the deck, but if the weather has been inclement it would have been awkward for the 4 of us.
The whole home can be cooled easily by multiple high end A/C units. But most of the time the breeze from the water kept us cool.
Next time we will bring our own kayaks as the water was so inviting (and rentals can be expensive). We only went into Bar Harbor (tourist trip) and Ellsworth (groceries and gas, etc) once each, though there are many things to do if you decide to leave the porch and the view! In addition to Acadia National Park, there are many adventure options for boats, gliders, etc, and an LL Bean outlet in Ellsworth.
We would return in a heartbeat and have already recommended this rental to friends.
Our two-week stay in this lovely cottage last summer (2017) was perfect. The cottage itself was immaculate when we arrived, and even had a lovely vase of flowers awaiting us. The bedrooms were spacious and well-appointed; my husband and I chose the one that looks directly on the ocean...what a sight to wake up to! The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances, the living room has extra-comfy loungers in front of a large-screen TV. Not that we watched it much; we were preoccupied with the view of the ocean and Mt. Desert Island, seen clearly from inside the cottage as well as from the many seats on the large deck directly outside. And you can't beat the location, which is on a gently sloping lawn in front of the ocean. There is literally nothing but a bit of nature between the cottage and the sea. I can highly recommend the Cove Cottage for a "Downeast" vacation rental!
