This is classic AMC-style service and ambiance. You get more than you pay for! Fee includes hearty delicious dinner, hot breakfast, sack lunch to order, your gear snowmobiled to the main lodge, morning weather report, a naturalist presentation most evenings and expert advice on trail conditions and recommended routes. Our group was large enough that we had the bunkhouse to ourselves - sleeps 12, wood stove with a full wood box and propane lanterns and a small mouse-proof box. The delicious meals are served family style in the main lodge that doubles as the registration desk. The "spa house" consists of composting toilets, hot showers and a co-ed sauna. The staff are more than willing to answer questions of all kinds re: trails, weather and life in the North Country. They bend over backwards to accommodate special diets (we had a vegetarian, a gluten-free and a lactose free eater in our group). Miles of groomed trails are well marked - free laminated maps available at the main lodge. Our nature hike was an evening of star and planet gazing. Staff alerted us to a dog sled race in the area so we skied the route to watch. Snow conditions were fantastic and some items you might have forgotten are for sale: ski wax, ski hats, gloves, hand warmers, etc. Was a great winter skiing adventure in the picturesque mountainous Maine woods!

Room tip: Private cabins are also available for couples and smaller parties.

My husband and I stayed one night in the Green Drake cabin. The cabins are rustic but comfortable and they had a fire going for us when we arrived. The staff was awesome and cooked up some amazing meals. We highly recommend a visit!

I spent a night in the Little Lyford bunkhouse with 8 friends. We loved our experience there. The winter x-country ski trails are groomed daily. The lodge felt very remote and rustic. We headed to Gorman the next day and it was nicer, newer, and busier, but there was something perfect about Little Lyford.

Spent one night at Little Lyford Lodge, part of the Appalachian Mountain club's group of facilities in the Moosehead Lake area of Maine. From the very start I knew we were in good hands; warmly greeted the camp crew who attended to all of our needs, answered our questions and prepared our delicious and generous meals and made us feel very much at home. Gorgeous main lodge and very comfortable cabins make you feel like you really are at a top resort [but you really are "getting away from it all in the woods of Maine] We cross-country skied and snow-shoed on very scenic and well maintained trails. We stayed in the bunk house, and had a nice wood burning stove going for us when we arrived. we will be back !

Room tip: the cabins are all clean and comfortable..all have wood burning stoves

My wife, myself and our two dogs spent 3 night during the mid-week last week here. The staff were super accommodating giving us a ride in using the pod to get us to the cabins in time for dinner our first night. They had our cabin warmed up and ready to go when we arrived. The meals were stupendous and the skiing was great! 5 stars for Little Lyford and the staff!!! Thank you all!

Room tip: Bring your own bed sheets.
