We took a plane and then road trip up to Maine in October with no destination in mind except to find a good clam bar and see the leaves changing. It was late in the afternoon when we whizzed by this lovely resort and decided we had better turn around and check to see if they had any rooms available. In luck, one or two were left for 1 night. Oh my gosh, what a wonderful resort. We had no idea what a gem we had found. Our small room had a gorgeous sea view, a little gas fireplace, robes, slippers and a beautiful bathroom and comfy king bed. The outdoor seating area was so nice, the small bar inside was cozy. We didn't eat at their restaurant that evening but there were 2 small mom and pop eateries right down the road which were very good. We had wished we could have planned a more organized trip but will definitely stay at The Inn by The Sea if we do it again. The Inn is completely dog friendly so if you don't like animals you might find someplace else which would be a shame.; the dogs are only allowed in certain rooms so check it out first..

Room tip: 4th floor, sea view was wonderful

Dear Jean C:
We are so pleased you stopped and turned around! Also very happy you enjoyed your brief visit with us- we hope you'll return and stay longer. I am very happy you enjoyed the Atlantic views from the fireplace room, as well as the large bathrooms and hotel amenities. Thanks for mentioning the foster dog program- it's been a huge success with, so far, over 60 dogs being adopted from the Inn in our collaboration with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Hope to see you back at the Inn soon- warm wishes
Michael Briggs,

Love the location of Inn By The Sea, especially in the fall foliage season. Pathway leads to a gorgeous beach. 1 bedroom suite was beautiful with gorgeous ocean views of the from our private deck. Not too far from the great city of Portland for sight seeing and a wonderful dinner! Will return!

Thank you for the great review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your anniversary getaway and are delighted you celebrated with us! We agree- fall in Maine is lovely- especially at the beach. We are also pleased you enjoyed the location and our close proximity to Portland- the combination of the beach location yet being so close to Portland is terrific. Many thanks for visiting, and we do hope you return soon.

best wishes,

The facilities at the hotel are very good and the beach and views are stunning.
The bar is very convivial and located at the side of reception.

Dear iansS7343GB

Thank you for the review! We are so pleased you enjoyed the Sea Glass lounge, the facilities and beach at the Inn. We agree there is a need for updating in the outer building, and are very excited to report that over the winter we will be doing just that! We do hope you'll visit again to enjoy the upgraded changes.

Warm wishes,

This is a very nice property, with especially nice, friendly people working there. They could not have been more accommodating. We stayed in a two bed/two bath suite which was really nice, with water view, a balcony, fireplace, the works. Super comfortable. We all had a great time and would stay again. Now, for the tweaks...the dining room service needs some polish. At the prices this place charges, one expects the have wine served at the same time as the meal...not afterwards as happened to us. Friendliness is very important, but one can expect a higher level of training at this pricepoint. Also, the spa had very good services -really nice- but the relaxation room or "serenity room" was tiny, too small to even stretch out, it was more like a Doctors waiting room. Again, not acceptable at this price point. A few tweaks here and there would really give this place the extra star. Lastly, we love dogs and enjoyed having so many around (all well behaved, too) but if you don't like dogs this is not your spot.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We greatly appreciate you found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, and are very pleased you enjoyed the two bedroom beach suite. We are disappointed we fell below both yours and our expectation for service in Sea Glass. We will certainly share your comments with the staff as we work to continually improve service standards throughout the Inn.

Thank you for visiting, we are delighted overall you enjoyed your stay and found it be the inn to be a very nice property. We do hope to see you in the near future.

Hotel was nice but definitely overpriced for the money. The grounds are very scenic and the location is great. The rooms themselves are nice but nothing special. The same goes for the cottages. Came as a large family group which seems to be there specialty but there were a lot of problems both with checking in, getting housekeeping, and getting the proper order at meals. The entire hotel staff seemed to be made up of 16 year olds. While they were generally pleasant they often missed or forgot details. We had to ask multiple times on things as simple as the nightly cookies or to make up the room, there were multiple problems with the reservation, and anytime we ordered something at the restaurant there was something left off or forgotten. It's a nice place but for the cost per night not worth it. The pool and beach are nice and the fact that they not only allow dogs but have a resident dog was fun.
