Bangor has quite a few Chinese restaurants and they tend to range from horrible to mediocre. As a rule, the quality of the food tends to be inconsistent: one night you'll get very good food, a week later you'll find spoiled meat or something else very unappetizing. Consistently fresh ingredients and a bland approach to seasoning/flavor seem to be characteristic of Chinese food in this part of Maine. THIS PLACE IS AN EXCEPTION. Their food is always fresh-tasting and their vegetables seem to be of better quality than any of the other Chinese places in the greater Bangor area. They're not afraid to make it at least somewhat spicy (requesting "Hot" will get you a good medium Szechuan or Hunan flavor). They don't charge you extra for added hotness (unlike Fresh Ginger). Even their mild dishes have a homemade quality about them, and are quite enjoyable and not overhelmingly greasy (unlike Oriental Jade) or overloaded with sugar (unlike Panda Garden, whose dishes should come with a diabetic test strip). They do great Teriyaki Chicken (my favorite appetizer there) and although some of their appetizers are mediocre, like their Egg Rolls, they're still my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bangor/Brewer/Orono area. You'd have to go all the way to Ming's in Searsport/Belfast to find better quaity, more authentic-tasting Chinese food. It's just average atmosphere, more of a takeout place really, but it's clean, the prices are quite reasonable and the owners are very friendly. They really should get a liquor license as they seem like a good casual spot to kick back with a Volcano Bowl. A solid 4 stars and very recommended.
