Darby’s has always been our “go to” when visiting Belfast but I guess things have changed since our last visit a year ago. We gathered 7 of us to celebrate our daughter’s engagement. What a disappointing and embarrassing evening.
Service was awful. And I mean awful. We couldn’t get the server’s attention half the time for follow through. Who has to ask four times for the same cocktail order, wait twenty minutes and even when it shows up its wrong? There could have been several more rounds of drinks if she had been on the ball. Someone should tell her alcohol is an easy increase to the bill which equates to an easy increase in tip. When she brought the food she literally said “I don’t remember who got what” and proceeded to call out dish names for us to figure it out. She never came to ask how the meals were. She never refilled water. It took forever to get the bill. Now in all fairness: if she is new why wasn’t she paired with an experienced server for a larger size party? Or if she had too many tables why give her a party of seven at all? So truly management owns this to some degree.
The food was very tasty but not hot when it arrived (guessing a server issue again). It still is nice to have such a diversified menu to choose from where there is something for everyone. Where else can you order scallops with a wasabi honey glaze and Pad Thai and enchiladas all at the same table?
And thankfully the other thing that didn’t change was the Scottish Toffee Cake. That’s alone was worth the 3 hour round trip! Seriously....save room for dessert.
We will give it another try....in hopes it was an off night. But wow was it off.
