Let me begin by saying .. Love the owner but get some new help!! The service was horrible , u could tell she wanted to get back to sitting down. After food was served she never once came back and asked if i needed a refill on my drink. Making fun of your customers is absolutely disrespectful and I will never step back in there again till u get better help. What your server didn’t know ..several in our group can speak Spanish !! At least have the common decency to go in the kitchen to gossip or make comments about people instead of doing it in front of everyone. Food was great as always but please get people who know what customer service is. Will be calling Monday morning the better business bureau, making fun of someone because they are gay will not be tolerated !!!

To celebrate my recent birthday - my son (age 16) and I - finally did something we had been talking about for a few years - we walked from one end of Shelbyville to the other - having ONE taco each - at every Mexican/Guatemalan/Taco dedicated restaurant in town - rating and describing the tacos at each place - we took notes and photos:

Comments noted on visit to Marimba - the 7th stop on our walk-

Marimba is the Grand Budapest Hotel of Shelbyville Mexican eateries… great location unique building.. like a sprawling villa.. used to be very popular.. but now past its prime.. 2 a la carte tacos.. $4.50 total.. waitress seemed miffed we were not ordering more .. dinner hour over.. place almost empty..

Tacos ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME as Fiesta Mexicana… school cafeteria style tacos - I used green El Yucateco hot sauce to change it up.... they did have a singer on the deck.. Midnight Train to Georgia… soccer on TV too .. a Mexican restaurant needs that to feel right..

The waitress was put out that we did not order more food/have a bigger check - 2-3 fellows came out of the kitchen to ask if everything was OK because we ordered such a small order... they did not seem to appreciate the concept of the taco walk - every place else did and thought it was a neat idea.

Placed - #9 of 9 taco restaurants in town. Probably not many visits to Marimba in my future at my advanced age to be honest - this place still has lots of memories though - 20 years ago it was the go to spot in town..

After a ten hour drive and a time zone change we were just hungry and ready for some reasonably priced Mexican food. Marimba hit the spot. Inexpensive but good margaritas set the tone as we split a Mexican Sampler (taco, relleno, tamale, enchilada and chalupa (what the heck is that) and rice and beans and a separate carnitas taco. We ate almost all of it and after tip, still spent less than $35.

The service is fast and friendly. Food is typical Mexican menu. On a sunny day, this is the place to go - they have a huge outdoor deck overlooking a beautiful lawn with trees. Part of the deck is covered, for those avoiding the direct sun. We've spent many sunny afternoons there with friends and margaritas. They have entertainment on the deck during summer weekends. Great place to hang out and enjoy drinks and good food.

They were able to accommodate a large group given short notice, which was nice.

The buffet has fajitas, enchilada, quesadillas, a taco bar, grilled chicken, queso, various salsas, mole sauce, rice, beans, fruit salad, and other selections. We enjoyed it.
