My wife and I were visiting friends in the area who recommended this pub for "pub grub" although, to be fair, they hadn't been for a while.

The two of us attended and the first thing we noticed that, for a weekend, it seemed rather quiet. It was soon later that we understood why! It was unpleasantly too brightly lit too!

We ordered our drinks at the bar and were advised that they would be brought to our table which was just by the bar, Our drinks were left on the bar by just where we were sitting for over fifteen minutes before they were brought over!

Even though the pub was far from busy with other diners our starters didn't arrive for over forty minutes after ordering!

My chicken skewers were over-cooked and, therefore, dry but served on a bed of quite old rocket that had become wilted and a little slimy. This was followed by a fish pie that maybe had a single flake of fish therein but little else that could be described as anywhere near "marine". There was plenty of white sauce and covered with dried-out mashed potato. On the plus side there were enough (reasonably cooked) carrots and peas to satisfy the whole table and more!

My wife ordered a salmon fillet but when this arrived it was clearly overcooked and probably not a fresh piece but frozen. Somehow this managed to be tasteless and watery but dried out. It was drowned in a dill sauce; she would have liked the sauce on the side or in a jug. The impression was that the sauce was trying to hide the poor quality of the fish. The menu said it was served with new potatoes but her meal was served with chips which she would not pick as not liked.

The chosen puddings (which were all in a cylindrical display cabinet near the entrance and by the bar each plate being covered with cling film) were fairly dry. Had we seen the display on entry we certainly would not have ordered them.

Service was poor at best with our plates indelicately placed on our table.

Certainly we were not made to feel welcome nor as if they wanted our business, That's easy; they won't be getting it again!

The best thing about the place was the building. It is quite old with interesting features. Although the staff were friendly, our party of five were the only customers. The food took a long while to arrive. The chicken goujons from the children men were great slabs of chicken. The pizza was a baguette with cheese on top. The adults chicken was a frozen piece that had been microwaved. The salad was a lot of leaves. The meals were edible, but such poor quality. It was a disappointing experience. We won't bother to go there again.

My Nan and I visited a few months ago, but sadly it was shut due to a change of hands.
On Sunday we returned, not to be disappointed.
The welcome was friendly, the young waitress seated us, and took a drinks order.
The food was incredible, we all opted for the roast.
The turkey was succulent, and so was the beef. Potato’s, veg and stuffing cooked to perfection.
Fantastic value for money, will definitely be returning! Keep up the good work.

We had a table booked for a birthday meal on Sunday. The service was very slow and we had to chase up everything. It was not even very busy in there. It took an hour for our food to appear. We were all really disappointed with the Sunday lunch- rock hard Yorkshires and stuffing and the meat was awful.
