We took our granddaughters for the tour. They loved it! We took many pictures and made great family memories.
LaVerna and Robert Turner
We've been there a couple times, little kids really love it. Plan to spend 1/2 a day. Anyone who appreciates wildlife and outdoors will enjoy the Salato Center.
The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The displays were clean and the animals appeared well taken care of. We had a blast! A fun day with a value that could not be beaten.
Wear sneakers so you can take the non paved trails along with the paved ones. Pack a lunch to enjoy by the lake.
Really amazing. Great for small children. Like a small very well maintained zoo. Perfect size for my 18 month old. Can't wait to go back and try out the trails.
My daughter and I were deciding on a day out. Salato had been recommended a few years ago but we had never made it. A flip of the coin would decide between there and the zoo.
It must have been an enchanted coin because it began a magical day at Salato.
They are open basically business hours for hairdressers; closed Sunday and Monday open on Saturdays. They are also closed on state and federal holidays so call before you go and assume a day off for you is a good day to go.
What is a Wildlife Education Center? I never asked before I went and never understood until I was leaving. There are acres (plots) of different habitats offered as education for both conservation and clarification. There are exhibits of both living and taxidermied wildlife native to KY.
There is information for education and there is scenic beauty and trails for comprehension. This place has it all. They have a paved (think golf cart sized blacktop) paths and off shoot (think gravel hiking width) paths that run as shortcuts or loop a rounds between paved paths and exhibits.
You can hear streams run and bull frogs sing around a marsh. We looked over and upon wild turkeys and wild cats. We almost walked into a black bear (we thought) separated only by a fence camouflaged by grass and vines. We respected the space and were inspected in return by a juvenile bald eagle from only a few feet away whose cage bars were meant to keep us out and not him in his open air aviary. Baby rabbits (wild not exhibited) played a game of curious chicken with us as they ran in and out of the weeds behind us as we gazed at elk and buffalo.
5 leisurely hours invested and lasting memories paid as dividend. $4.00 adults $2.00 kids some of the best money I ever spent. A quarter for a toss certainly my best luck ever!
You should go for an hour or a day.
We were really pleased with our visit. The children and adults loved the animals and exhibits. Several exhibits indoor and outside. Plenty of benches to rest while everyone is looking at the animals. One of the most fascinating exhibits was the bees. It was AWESOME!! Lots of snakes, fish, wild turkeys, deer ,elk even bob whites!!! A really nice family outing.
