“Get here early if you want a room, even with a reservation”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

I thought Marriott was supposed to be a higher end hotel chain. This Marriott is no where near that. I have stayed here the past two nights and it has been a horrible experience. The center of the hotel is open to the lobby. Every night there has been large, loud crowds in the lobby keeping me awake until 1:00am. I asked to be moved to a higher floor and could not be accommodated. You can tell they tried to update the rooms but the furniture is old and the shower is small and dark and there is no fan in the bathroom. The room smells musty and old. Internet access is spotty at best.

One person in my training group reserved a room more than a month in advance and arrived at 9pm to check in. Despite her reservation they had overbooked and were going to put her in a closet on a cot!!! How ridculous is that? After complaining, it turns out they did have rooms available, their higher rate rooms and rather than eat the cost on their overbooking mistake, they would rather her stay in a closet with no bathroom? Is that even legal?

Everytime I have spoke to the Front Desk for assistance, I get no help whatsoever and I understand its the company line but if you haven't helped me, do not end with "my pleasure". It's your pleasure to not assist me??

Check out the Embassy Suites across the street. 2 people in our training group are staying there, they have a larger room, free happy hour, free full breakfast for $30 less every night than the Marriott.

Spent two nights on business, with no plans 'to go to Cincinnati,' and felt stuck.Clean enough, friendly enough, spacious rooms, pleasant-smelling toiletries. All rooms open onto an inner atrium, so rooms were noisier than you'd think. Room service: typical hotel menu. Asked for closest Starbucks, was directed to hotel bar; it's not a Starbucks, and the one nearby, the ONLY coffee shop nearby, closed before 4 pm. Frustrating lack of healthy, much less interesting, dining options within quick walking distance. Couldn't even find a corner or convenience store to pick up snacks/juice/granola bars. Frustrating lack of business center! Checked out early, found better shopping and food at CVG airport! Still: clean. comfortable. But not much more. Most of these observations are beyond control of hotel management, but they could make up for what is lacking in the immediate surrounding area.

Dear Guest-I appreciate your comments but I am disappointed that you had a below average stay. Not sure if we made you aware but we do have a Trolley that takes you to all of the shopping and restaurants in the area for $1-- including downtown Cincy? I hope that you give us another opportunity and wish you and yours the BEST! Regards-Kris Brown General Manager

Have stayed at this location on several occasions and would definitely go back. Clean, friendly, and up to the standards I expect from Marriott. The staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant food and room service was great. The restaurant itself seemed to need some managerial/staffing attention though as the two times I dined there I found the wait time for seating and table service was longer than it should have been given that there were plenty of empty tables and a large conference was underway in the hotel. On a positive note, I was glad to see that they had brought their "banana oatmeal creme brulee" back to the breakfast lineup!

Great location with gorgeous views from the rooms -- right on the river facing Cincinnati. Gorgeous bar and restaurant area. Nice front desk, chic modern lighting throughout, and friendly servers in the restaurant.

Some small things: tiny rooms with even tinier bathrooms. Those bathrooms are the smallest I've ever seen in a Marriott. If bathroom space is paramount to you, this is not the venue to book.

Nice patio overlooking the river but it was early February so a big no go on the pa-ti-o.

Typical rough as sandpaper towels that the Marriott chain worldwide loves to pile in your bathroom. Come on Marriott: Sofitel can do it right. Four Seasons can do it right. Kimpton can do it right. Is there some worldwide fetish you have for cat tongue quality bath towels?

Modern decor that is normally seen in newly updated Renaissance properties. Nice, albeit small, flat screen TVs. The 32" screens look like a hood ornament atop the dresser in which it is perched. Typical Marriott bedding. Typical Marriott concierge lounge. Expensive drinks in the lounge and a new tip line for drinks, when the bar is self serve. Hmmmmm.......

Guest upon check in gloated about the wondrous food in the restaurant. The restaurant IS beautiful but the food was typical hotel fare, with maybe a 1/2 star notch up. It did its part to fill me on a blustery night in which I did not want to set foot outside, but that's about the highest mark I can give it.

Overall: a pleasant stay, and beautiful view, but for the price and room size I wouldn't call it special.
