Grand Hotel is located at the heart of Serre Chevalier (Chantemerle), some 15 minutes away from Briancom (with medieval city centern and many castles/bastions).
There are numerous sking areas located close by: Serre Chevalier (1 min), Montgenevere (30 min), Puy St. Vincent (45 min), Risoul/Vars (1h) and Deux-Alpes (1h).
Grand Hotel extremely well located and is 1 minute (50 meters) away from the cabin station.
Hotel features standard and superior rooms. Both rooms are well quipped, nice and clean - but little bit small in size. We had hard time to figure where to put our luggages. Our superior room had a small coach/bed - which when opened would have fullfilled the floor totally. Rooms have separate toilet and bathroom (with bath), fridge (with non-alcoholic drinks), TV and extraordinary fast internet. We were on the 4th floor and had nice balcony with chairs to the sunny side.
There is fully stocked rental (good equpment) in the hotel and hotel provides lift tickets (if you plan to visit other ski locations, please remember to ask your receipt to get free day tickets included in your galaxie ski card - they forget to give us those and had hard time to get the included Montgenevere day pass).
There is a bar and set menu restaurant on the second floor. Bar is fully stocked, serves great coctails and excellent tapas portions (try the house wine - goid value for money). The restaurant upstairs has set menu (starters, main course, desert) which did not change during the week - you have five options each to choose from (it got little bit biring, as some of us har half board for six days).
The restaurant on the second floor serves the breakfast, which is excellent and has loads to choose from.
Street level there is another bar/restaurant that serves more traditional food (day time) and fondues/racklettes on the evenings (we were able to orde ”day portions” on the evenings, which was great). There is also outside patio to enjoy the afternoon sun/after ski (the patio on sexond floor is nicer, but they do not have any service on the afternoon). Their racklette is excellent (pity they did not serve Pierrade hot stone - it would make the restaurant superb choice).
The staff is extremely friendly and helpfull. They are good in english. There is even ”properly” stocked shop in the lobby, with extremely helpfull staff (handles also the rentals). We left our skis to be serviced after skiing day, and those were returned to our skiloccer next morning - and it was reasonably priced (as is the rental from the hotel).
There is both outsideparking and garage available. Those are limited in space, so you better to reserve a slot in advance.
The skiloccers are excellent, can be locked and dry your boots.
Then the bad:
- spa costs 10€/h additional. And it is extremely small so you need to book your time slot in advance (room has bathrope and slippers)
- there was shortage of skiloccer keycards and we needed to ask staff to open the skiloccer doors
- the restaurants has different prices for same things as the restaurant on sexond floor, which we found strange.
- And they do not have wine bottleopener in the room - rhank god, we brought our own...😂
We will definately return to this hotel !
