“NEWBO Bike Collective”

Czech Village / New Bohemia District
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Not necessarily an attraction, but a nice addition to Cedar Rapids, the NEWBO Bike Collective, across the street from the NEWBO Market can assist with bicycle repairs for those who can't afford the local brick and mortar bike shops in the CR-IC Corridor. The idea is you do the work and someone explains/assists while you do the work. At this time, the hourly fee for stand time is $5.00. We went there this weekend after several of my attempts to replace a handlebar on a cheap bicycle for my daughter-in-law at the other retailers either ended with no stock or high prices for something I didn't need or didn't meet my needs. The place is conveniently located, there is plenty of parking around the area, and the volunteers that were there this past weekend seemed to be very friendly and helpful. I got a used mountain bike handlebar for $5 and it worked perfectly. PS - They also have some decent older bikes for sale as well, or some jalopies you can fix and make into an art bike. Open Sat & Sun. Thanks NEWBO Bike Collective!!

I was looking for something esoteric and literally saw nothing of interest. I drove around the area pinpointed on the map but nothing appeared remotely Czech!

The place was a ghost town. Almost all the buildings were empty. A antique shop and two restaurants was about it. Do take the time to walk across the bridge over Cedar creek.

The brochure we had said that there was an awesome kids area. There is a 3x3 sandbox with buckets and broken shovels. It was a nice farmers market, but that is it, so not much for out of towners with small kids

New Bo Market is interesting with a wide variety of foods to dine on. Vegetable market, bakery, ice cream shop, cheese shop, etc. Frequently activities are held int he outer area which are very interesting, sand castle building, farmers markets, childrens event, etc.
